The long overdue Tom Segal appreciation thread.

4 losses on the trot, my original £10 is worth £35, so still up, but he better come through soon

Here is rude boy Tom's tips for today.

Newcastle 15:10
2m John Smith's Northumberland Plate

Keens day 8-1
Record Breaker 14-1

I don't know if anyone here watches C4 racing but sometimes I'm almost embarrassed at the attitude of his co-presenters towards Derek Thompson; of them clearly think he's a complete wanker. I'm not saying they're wrong . . it's just a bit unusual.

MaGrath and Francombe are the worst.

I don't have channel4 these days but I think Thomo is a pain in the ass. Pointless obvious un-revealing questions.

The jockeys don't like him either. Why does his stick a mic in their faces almost as soon as they are over the line? I read in the RP Paul Nichols column that he has told Ruby he has his permission to tell him fuck off if he wants to.

When a day of cheltenham was postponed in 2008 he was interviewing McCoy and said something along the lines of "I know it's a stupid question but do you think the horses know whats happening?

McCoy: You're right, it is a stupid question
Thomo: I know, but I had to ask it
McCoy: No, no you didn't

:D

Mr Retro - good stuff. It's a generally held view, I suspect . . .

Tom's gone off the boil.
The going changed.

His main selection was fav until 10 minutes before the off when it dropped right out the trading market. That's the problem with having to tip 18-20 hours before the race.

Tom's bets today.

Crackdown
2.40 Sandown
1pt win at 11-1 with
Ladbrokes or Stan James

Yes Mr President
3.30 Haydock
1pt win at 11-1 generally

I might take my daughter to Sandown today.

Tom's view on the big race.

As for the big race, Sea The Stars is beginning to look something
of a good thing. The vibes aren’t strong for Conduit and
even worse for Rip Van Winkle, who is friendless in the market.
That is probably because Ripper was much too short to begin with
and is now just drifting out to the price he should really be.
However, this is his best chance of proving his connections right and if he got to 8-1 I would be tempted to have a few quid on
him.

Having said that, I think he is going to have to run down Sea The
Stars and possibly Conduit up the Sandown hill and that is hard
for any horse, let alone one that hasn’t finished in the first three
on his last three starts.

At least the going won't change today.

Fwiw - and I have no stats to back this up - I prefer Pricewise in the winter and in a handicap.
