The London elections - your predictions

Even if he does, he's not going to be a popular Mayor. And him getting in may scupper any chances of a Labour Mayor next time. So if Boris (or worse) is around next time...

interesting, so if he gets in he has really lost then you think?

Do not care about a persons private life as long as it does not effect their professional life. But calling Africans piccannies & having watermelon smiles is very, very rude & verging on racist. Boris also defended the columnist Taki's racist writings when he was editor of the Spectator. Boris's record against gay rights & gay marriage is well known. He voted against the repel of section 28 & against gay rights legislation. On this evidence I would say that Boris is a borderline racist & homophobe & therefore is not fit to lead a tolerant progressive world city like London.

No offence, but the above argument is quite frankly bollocks - just as it is when the Standard their own version of the the same argument that states Livingston is an anti-semite, corrupt, adulterer who supports and courts people who think that attacks on gay people, women "who dont know their place" and Israeli civilians can be justified. Is he any more fit to be mayor of a "progressive world city" like London?

Livingstone was fabulous for London in the 1980's I've got to give him that. However, now I wouldn't consider him a fit person to have a rag and bone cart.

I agree, and tbh I still think he was by far the best of the candidates (sorry Brian) last night - it just it does my head in when people (especially yesterday's Guardian, which was frankly outrageous) make such a nonsensical argument. There should be plenty of reasons not to vote Boris without flimsy shouts of RACIST aimed at him.

Paddy Power have confirmed that no payouts have been made and none will be made untill the official poll results are in.

Exactly. I can see why some people might say he's not racist, as that's not so cut-and-dried, but he most certainly is homophobic.

@agricola - how can you look at his voting record and his comments about gay marriage being like letting men marry dogs, and not think he's a homophobe? He's all but danced around waving a big 'I hate gay people' sign while wearing singing racist reggae lyrics and wearing a t-shirt with a picture of the God Hates Fags logo on!
