What is it for?

What is this drainer bit in the middle for?

Me and the good lady Idaho are forever locked in disagreement. She thinks it is for pouring down the manky water from cups and pans whilst washing up so that you don't muck up the washing up water.

I argue that this is a grim habit and that such pouring should be done prior to commencing washing up and that the drainer section is for putting cutlery and small items to drain.

Any ideas?

I use it to rinse soap off stuff, I fill it with water so's not to be too water wasteing and dip things in if they fit.

I use it to get grimy stuff vauegly clean before sticking it the main sink otherwise the water you are cleaning with gets well manky. I wouldn't use for draining clean stuff.

I use mine for:
pouring manky water down
draining washed-up things
cleaning the cat bowl
rinsing veg

but not all at the same time i hasten to add!
