The (Lewis Hamilton) Sports Personality of the Year Award 2007

To be fair to Zara Philips she did atleast win something!
Again as part of a team. The horse should've got half the award. Besides, what ranks her achievement above that of Cooke, Taylor or Calzaghe?

Forget the Sports personality of the year. We want him to win Sporting Hero at the new UK Nickelodeoon Kids Choice Awards.

I'm so sad i a) know there is new UK KCA's and b) who is nominated for what.

He'll win it even if he doesn't win the title, a la Damon Hill. Unless Jonny Spunkfringe does a "goal drop" or whatever again. Hatton v Mayweather is around the same time as the show innit.

Will Lewis' dad be there to accept the award with him? He is everywhere that Lewis is and comes across as very controlling.

He tends to say 'we' a lot rather than 'he' as well. Something a bit weird about it all really. It's not like he is a kid any more.

Read up on the sacrifices that Anthony Hamilton made to get Lewis into F1. He was not a spoilt little rich kid....

At no point did I suggest he was. I know the background. Mr H did all he could to ensure his son was successful. Good man. But he wants a big slice of it whenever he can doesn't he? Perhaps he sees it more as an investment than sacrifices. The payback is fantastic now so good for him but I don't get why he has to be in the foreground so much.

When Lewis says 'we' he is talking about the whole Mclaren team, whom he has been working with since he was 12 and without whom he'd be driving a Force India or some other such shite.

stupid award

but Chris Hoy should win it clearly

pmsl @ the chippy welshies moaning that Calzaghe wouldn't win it last year :D

He was spoiled rotten by his Dad surely?

Isn't there some young girl swimmer that has done something amazing? I don't really listen with sports stories but Hamilton can't be the only star this year. A lot of the running, jumping, bat waving sports people don't think that motor racing is a sport so that might affect his support.

What about that runner who runs with her head nodding. Paula something. She has just won a marathon in America. I have forgotten her name but she is very good and talks well in interview.

And there is a male tennis player lurking somewhere, and there is a whole flotilla of Olympic watersports people. It should be a good contest this year and no need to bring in another dreary footballer.

Hamiltons achievement has happened at the right time of year,so will be fresher in peoples memory so that's why he'll win.

Hamilton will win it, but I'd pick Chris Hoy. He turned track cycling into one of my Olympic highlights, and I'm not even a brit :p

Chris Hoy should win by a mile. Three gold medals in one Games is almost unheard of for a Brit, and now only Steve Redgrave has a better Olympic record than him for Britain, and his weren't all in different events. Hoy totally obliterated everyone and more than matched Usain Bolt's exploits on the track.

As for youngsters bursting through, Mark Cavindish owns Hamilton with nobody coming close to him in the sprints at the TdF.

Im really chuffed for lewis hamilton, but becky adlington gets my vote, she was the star of the british olympic team for me.

He was spoiled rotten by his Dad surely?

Spoiled in the sense he was supported in an expensive hobby.

Not spoiled in the sense that as a family they were not (as many F1 drivers are) rich and his father sacrificed a lot, working three jobs in order to allow his son to pursue a dream.

Seems Massa's dad did the same thing. i think the rich kids like Barichello are in a minority these days with teams nurturing taent from a very early age.

Anyway, the best personality is Victoria Pendelton but since she only got one ride in the Olympics will not win it. If I vote I'll go Chris Hoy but I think the Olympic vote will be split between him and the swimmer and Hamilton will win thereby raising vodafone and other big corporations profile. I'd prefer SPOTY not to be a human billboard.

I tipped her at the beginning of the year, firstly because I knew she was an awesome cyclist, and secondly because I thought she might become the poster girl of the Olympic team. You're right though that she only had one event in Beijing, although Hoy had his specialism, the kilo, taken out, which I think makes him even greater.
