The Left List

Udo, any councillor for any party elected in Wales (and I presume the whole of the UK) gets less than the average workers' wage even on a full allowance? Bit of a silly position to take outside of the Assembly and General Elections.

I notice that your standing in one ward in Cardiff has given voters a brilliant left choice, they have the Left Party (best name on the list fair play), Welsh Communist party, or Socialist Alternative to choose from. If only the far-right was fragmented into a similar number of parties.

Point 1: Yes, I was aware of this. It is a rhetorical statement.
Point 2: You get two votes in Adamsdown ward of Cardiff, I will be advocating a vote for the two socialist candidates in that ward, Joe Redmond, Left Party (Adamsdown RESPECT) and Dave Bartlett, Socialist Alternative. Wouldn't waste my breath on the tankies.

I notice that your party of choice, Plaid Cymru are not standing a candidate in the ward??

The other ward we are contesting is the Butetown ward of Cardiff (where an ex-councillor from your party, the respected local historian, Neil Sinclair, left Plaid to join us). The left has a rich history in the area documented in Peter Fryers, classic history of Black people in Britain, Staying Power, & the finest hour for the Socialist Workers Party in Wales is perhaps the role they played in the campaign to release the Cardiff 3.
But in recent years their has been little socialist organisation in the area.

Incredibly, despite millions being poured in the so-called Bay development and the ward being next door to the Welsh Assembly and County Hall, the area around Loudon Square is in the top three of poorest areas in the whole of Wales which is an absolute disgrace.

Some people may have heard of the area from the classic Hayley Mills flick, Tiger Bay.

We were planning to contest a couple of other wards, but due to the 'Respect Nominating Officer' not even bothering to reply to our communications preventing us using the name we are known and loved by, we chose to cut down our operations.

Indeed, I am sure some of our support will instead vote for your own candidate or for Dave Bartlett in the absence of a Plaid candidate. Others won't vote at all or might vote tactically.

JP,

Genuine question - how come only some of them are standing as The Left List?

Others are running as independents.
