The Law & Order Franchise

Okay, so watching the current new SVU on Hallmark at the moment. Got Hilary Duff in it.
Anyway, normal 'mother kills daughter' thing, then they say actually the little girl died from measles.

Now they're treating measles like it's ebola or something, talking about Patient Zero, trying to track down the person who's spreading it. What the fuck has a little bit of measles got to do with kiddy and sex crimes?

IT'S MEASLES! IT'S FUCKING MEASLES! IT'S MOTHERFUCKING MEASLES! KIDS GET MEASLES! OMFG!!!

They're going to go after some woman who didn't vaccinate her child for measles (who's kid got over measles quite easily on their own) for 'murdering' the kid of another woman by spreading measles.
Fucking hell.
Thank god they found her not guilty! There was some seriously warped shit there.
Fucking Americans. *ducks* :D

SPOILER WARNING FFS - I'm watching this on +1

Jesus! Now they're going to charge a girl with distributing kiddy porn. Only, she was sending a nude photo of herself to her boyfriends. Fucking hell. How fucked up are some people. That's one of the things about this show that really frustrates me - the way the law is twisted to such extremes it's absolutely absurd.

Mr Paw says this actually happened to someone who was putting up pictures of themselves on myspace.

Watching the second SVU atm, but hopefully without spoiling anything on the first, frankly I'm with them on how dangerous measles is.

Oh, and the second episode has actually happened in real life in the US: the judges involved were in court a couple of months ago.

Well, yeah, from what I've seen of their law, it should've been negligent homicide. I'm with Elliot: if she wants to go live in a shack in the woods, fine, but in the city she has responsibilities to others.

Far too long to explain in this forum, but I have strong personal reasons for getting extremely fucked off with idiots who don't vaccinate when there's no good reason why they shouldn't.
And unlike NYC, I include religion as no good reason. Wasn't it funny when the Amish bloke thought his son had VD? :D

What a bizarre couple of episodes of SVU last night directly after two very tense criminal Intents.

The SVU with Jim Robinson just went right wonky at the end...'Remember the voice' and then the next episode with the new CSU retard was just fucking poor.

Pft, I haven't seen it for the past couple of weeks.

My sky mag yesterday did, however, tell me there is a new Law & Order coming next week. With Ken Barlow's RL son in it as new DE ADA. And Green has a new partner. 'Citin'.

So the CSU twonk is still in it? I reckon he's ripe for either killing someone himself, or getting killed. I'd be happy with either, or both.

I was a big fan of the original Law and Order for a long time. I'll watch any episode with any combination of Paul Sorvino/George Dzundza/Chris Noth/Jerry Orbach/Benjamin Bratt/Jesse Martin. Since Jerry Orbach died, though, i've steadily fallen away. I think that, after 15 years, it just got a bit stale.

i watched some SVU for a while, and don't mind it, but i've never really gotten into it.

As for Criminal Intent, Vincent D'Onofiro's character makes me all stabby. He drives me fucking crazy, and i simply can't watch him. And his complete omniscience, combined with his partner being a complete cipher, is annoying as fuck.

I think one big problem faced by the franchise, and particularly by the original show, which has always tended to focus on homicides, is that it's just not especially believable anymore to anyone who knows anything about New York City.

When Law and Order started, in 1990, it was still possible to portray Manhattan, or at least some areas of it, as a genuinely dangerous place. Having a murder to solve every week wasn't much of a stretch at all, with Manhattan having 503 homicides in 1990.

But New York has gotten much more expensive and much more gentrified since then. Last year in Manhattan, there were 61 homicides. The borough of Manhattan is covered by 22 precincts. With numbers like this, it becomes a bit hard to believe that one pair of detectives at one single precinct (the fictional 27th of L&O) deals with 20-30 murders a year.

Oh that's nonsense. Columbo solves murders every week, as does Quincy and I'm fucked if I'm ever going on holiday if there's a possibility Jessica Fletcher's going to be there. Everywhere she goes, people get murdered. I find that a bit suspicious :hmm:

Yeah, and i don't watch any of those shows, because i think they're crap.
