the Killers

http://www.last.fm/music/Chris+Morris/_/Club+News

"It's seven-foot tall night at the Fussy Bender in Cardiff. So, that'll just be those three geezers again, and that one lady if she turns up, each paying two hundred pounds on the door, and each, I have to say, ignoring the other three, and acting like they owned the place, and it was their home, and they were watching television on a Wednesday."

I also particularly like:

"Two Nervous Guitarists doing strum and bass"

"DJ Boiled Mouse. Ahh... yes. Making that creepy wisp of a noise, and expecting people to dance? Come on!"

"Huge discounts if you let the bouncers lamp you on the way in."

"Like a bomb made out of jazz and feathers"

man, U2 is phenomenon-ish! the killers, catch 'em now, while they're hot, new, whatever. I hardly find these bands comparable.

U2 have morphed, evolved, regressed, broken loose. The Killers, I dig. But I'd never put them on the level of U2.

That's like comparing Oasis in '96 to the Beatles.

erm, i think i compared their sound. please spare me the rather tortured precis of their careers

I thought the Killers sounded great on the Brits - really pissed off that I couldn't get tickets to see them live, but they'd sold out within minutes when they went on sale a few months back.

Oasis, in comparison sounded a bit worn out in comparison. (even Take That put a bit more oomph into their performance)!

ebay is good for situations like this

They are alright, they have a few cracking songs but when I saw them on their first visit to England (well I think it was their first because it was a fair while before Hot Fuss) at the Birmingham Academy 2 I thought their "live presence" was a little light. Maybe with more experience under their belt they may have solved that problem.

Oh by the way have a great time when you go to see them.

I checked eBay straight away (within minutes of them going on sale & selling out) and they were loads on sale for silly prices, which is probably the reason why they sold out so quickly to legit fans of the band.

I'm not going to give the money-grubbing eBay touts any of my money, anyway. I could understand it if somebody had bought tickets, but then something had cropped up & they couldn't go - but these tickets appeared so quickly they must have been touts.

I'm sure I read somewhere that many of the venues would be requiring ID checks that match the original purchasers, so the eBay tickets might not be such a good idea, after all.

yeah is does suck when they do that! like why would someone in alaska be buying tickets to a show in florida? I notice people doing that alot here as well. so, I guess it depends on how badly you want to see a certain group live is all

I just saw them on telly doing some awful synth drenched dirge and I can confirm that they are appalling. Sub U2 po-faced horribleness.

And when I see someone wearing one of their shirts, well, I think they're scum too.

Well, having now been I can safely say that while the entrance was great and boded well for a cracking show I felt the whole thing was let down somewhat by the crowd who if they had paid £60 a ticket are clearly mental and not all that bothered about the gig itself. Mmmm, let me stroke my beard.

The playlist also seemed a bit poorly thought out, it peeked far too early and didn't really leave them anywhere to go save for Mr Brightside which still didn't manage to inspire many. Good band technically, not much on the crowd interaction, shit crowd.

shit crowd eh? sounds like a regional issue. I'm wondering, did they play a good mix of first and second album? or were they pushing there 2nd album more?

shit 60 pound a ticket?? thats steep. they're going for 36 dollars a head here. (18 pound)

I had a check on ebay before I went, ours were still £30, but those that got ripped off were looking at £60. I think the venue may have been too big? Too much filler people at the NEC. They mixed the first two albums, started mostly with the first album [surely the best!] but the crowd didn't seem that into it, almost like they didn't really recognise it? Shocking I thought. They didn't warm up for the second album much either which they then played more of before ending on Mr Brightside.

i saw them at Big Day Out in January. They were good, the whole crowd seemed to know every word so all sung along. Must say though, you could easily have been listening to the cd at home. They sounded good, but there was absolutely no crowd interaction or variation on the way the songs sound on the cd. I love it when bends interact with the crowd at a concert- makes me feel like I am seeing something special!

Generally an overhyped band , even the single 'somebody told me' was elevated far above its position. Depend what you like but in my book Interpol are far better and so are the Editors.

all these bands, the killers interpol etc just sound like early 90's unfortunates Adorable to me, even down to the vaguely identifiable frontman backed with totally anonymous band members.

Seen them twice live a couple of years back. Once on an NME tour with Bloc Party and Kaiser Chiefs, which was one hell of a line-up and another time when they were headlining. I've only got Hot Fuss though, so not too familiar with Sam's Town other than the singles.

They were good value live though!
