The Joy of criticizing

Greebozz, eyerolling, putdowns, and sneering aren't exclusive to the far left at all, think of the condescending comments new labour make about the
'old left' , about how the left need to live in 'the real world' and about how idealistic the left are, which they then contrast to their more supposedly more 'pragmatic' approach (.i.e accepting the logic of a free market economic sysytem doing deals with big business in PFI arrangements and so on.)

I agree its all too easy to dismiss the far let all as bigots with psychological problems who by definition are incapable of relating to ordinary people , but I guess the truth is more complex than that. Some of the far left attempt to engage with , and sometimes do connect with ordinary people. The Socialist Party and Respect are far from perfect ,and have loads of critics here, but neither of them would have won any council seats two weeks ago (albeit a very modest total) if they had totally failed to strike a chord with anyone outside the circle of the far left. Neither would someone like Mark Serwotka have been elected as leader of PCS if he was totally divorced from ordinary PCS members.

What I'm saying is... the left are probably no worse or better than any other group in society , in terms of being arrogant or condescending.

If I had notice this beforehand , I could have save fifteen minutes of my time typing my previous message. Whatever happened to being reasonable, having rational debate in a friendly fraternal manner, and handling someone elses differing views in a civilised way?

He got bored and cross and realised he didn't have a leg to stand on so resorted to childish name calling.

It happens a lot

How intolerant , smallminded, childish, petty and indicative of that trend of now old fashioned new labour / blairite rhetoric you come to expect from these 'eustonite' bastards ! Pass me a glass of claret so I can drown my sorrows:D

I found your post interesting, I know there is the danger of trying to live "in the real world" in that too many compromises might me made. But I do think an honest good effort is being made, by on the whole good people. And even slightly watered down socialism in power is a lot better that not socialism and total Toryisem.

I think that many people here don't realize that doing something in reality so much different from theory. One can imagine oneself as a great ice figure skater in the head, but is a hell of a different ball game when you are on the ice yourself and have never skated before. That is why some many posted here seem so dam childish. It is as if they don't realize how hard life is and how many compromises one has to make, that you never thought you would have to.
