Have you ever heard of something called argumentum ad hominem.revol68 said:a set of aphorism's does not a philosophy nor a theology make.
It's utter twaddle, for pseudo intellectuals, the type of retard who listens to "world" music whilst wanking over the "Art of War".

To be fair, it is the modus operandi of discussion round here rather than something you are in anyway expecialy guilty of.An Ad Hominem is a general category of fallacies in which a claim or argument is rejected on the basis of some irrelevant fact about the author of or the person presenting the claim or argument.

An additional bit I picked up from today's paper - blaming the Jews for Christ's execution apparently comes from St. Augustine of Hippo though "Augustine ruled that Jews should not be subject to physical violence or forced to turn Christian".
Of course the Jews got blamed for Christ's execution rather than the Romans who actually did it, clue is in the term 'Roman Catholic Church'. Rather like blaming the Iraqis for all the shit that's going down in Iraq.
gnoriac said:Another factor may be jealousy, mediaeval Jewish communities often organised their own education, whereas for other Europeans it was largely restricted to the wealthy and the monasteries.
that and one mans quest to subjigate all women to his will...frogwoman said:although obviously anti-semitism has many other causes, that's also why witches were persecuted, coz they were traditional healers who didn't conform to what the church wanted them to do

See it in some parts of north London today. The jews I saw to in april were quite racist to non jews. One pizza shop would not talk to me at all so I just buggered off and the same went for a guy I tried to ask directions from. Not a sign of any attempt to evn try to say anything. Just looked at me like shit and walked off.
Not that much of a shock they are disliked if this is any example.

not initally in the uk at least ... one man appoint himself witch finder general and then set about finding witches....frogwoman said:i think it was more than one man ...![]()

the fact is that everyone had a terrible time unless they were part of the ruling elite (and even then things were pretty risky), witches were a threat to that as they went against the traditional church teachings and believed in something which the church viewed as a threat and wanted to stamp out.
It was never just about us, but about the control of the population in general.
the jews were made to live in as miserable a way as possible, so that they would eventually not be able to bear living in that way, and convert to christianity...but it would also serve as a warning to everyone else - this is what we can do to you if you don't listen to us, we can make you live like shit and totally break you.
people often tend to view the treatment of the jews separately from the way women were viewed and the way the majority of the population was forced to live but actually all this stuff was happening at the same time and so it has to viewed in the same context .
we were different,we looked different, didnt take part in church activities (obviously), and after the diaspora we were a minority anyway and were always going to be viewed with suspicion ... we were in a tricky situation before anyone started formally persecuting us.
very few people knew what had happened to make the situation the way it was, with jewish moneylenders and that, they just assumed it was because the jews didn't like to work and wanted to ruin people, because that was what everyone else said, and it was in the interests of the people in power to keep it that way .
and over time because we'd always been persecuted we were viewed with suspicion anyway, as a stereotype had formed...its a similar thing going on with the roma now.
however there were lots of people who tried to stop persecutions and stuff, right up to the highest levels of the church and the government. this stuff wasn't going on all the time, it certainly wasn't unchallenged and many people bravely helped the jewish people, it cost them their lives in many cases. its also worth remembering that jews were largely left alone in the muslim world and in India and China .
Johnny Canuck2 said:Yep.
I think there was less persecution in India, China etc, because the religions there didn't have jews all tied up in their mythology, ie. killing Christ.
