It's quite nice to see Nizlopi making it big, I've known them for years and they're from Herefordshire, my home county. They've headlined the acoustic tents at plenty of festivals for ages but only really recently been noticed. I love 'em.
A guy came up to me at a gig last night, never seen him before in my life, started asking me if I'd heard it, how I HAD to hear it because it would makemy worlda better place etc etc.
I quite like the idea, but the song is cloyingly worthy and sentimental - way too icky for my tastes. It sounds like Christopher Lillicrap FFS! And I'm not sure how I feel about a grown adult singing the lines of a five-year-old kid. Something unsettling about it...
Absolutely top song. It's so refreshing to see straightforward, honest writing with such resonant imagery. People saying that it's schmaltzy and sentimental are totally missing the point and, to be frank, heartless, soulless, emotionally dead old grouches. It'll be a crime if it doesn't make it to number one.
