the january/february music competition

Review:

Talk Amongst Yourselves.

This is my kind of thing, bit like Feeder, bit like Tom Petty - bit like Bowie, but great melody and stand on it's own feet - and a bit like that bloke that sang Pretty in Pink...love the vocal technique, definitely something I'm going to steal for my own ends - love the hookyness and the guitar wall, uncomplicated drum beat that moves just at the right points to keep this song rocking along - I want to sing backing vox to this - I want there to be a higher meaning in this track that I don't understand, I want to play this song live to 50,000 people - I want to be in this band. Atomic Suplex - Strange vocals there.

Average Joe - Piano sound plodding. Vocals need some tweaking with auto-tune. At 4 minutes 45 seconds it was too long.

The Shanners - Good production. Excellent guitar playing, both bass and lead and the vocals came through good. Liked it.

Dhimmi (ninjaboy) - Complete chaos!

Strange? how so?

I try something new and everyone starts calling me strange. I'm going back to bed.

The vocals appear to be slipping and sound like a bunch of kids in a playground, then some child chiller comes in at the end.

Don't get me wrong, I thought the melody (yes, mell o dee :D ) was really good - had a hook to it. :)

I've got a new Idea for a song, or maybe a hobby.

Right. Heres the Fatter Faction entry. This month we've done a remix. It features Rakim (no Eric B) and its a remix of Let The Rhythm Hit 'em. All the music is original and is a mixture of live bass, drums and guitar and programmed/sequenced beats and sounds.

To truly appreciate this track it should be played thru speakers the size of a bus at maximum volume

>>> Let the Rhythm Hit 'em <<<

EDIT
Its doesnt seem to stream very well so you might be better off downloading the MP3.
:)

thanks for the votes of confidence mc5 & dirtysanta, glad you like the tune.
I personally like the aids, lesbian disco gigolo the best (apart from the shanners but I guess its bad form to vote for yourself!!)

Its nice to finally have some traditional bands guitar/vocals/bass/drums entering the comp. This comp used to be just people entering electronic music only.

Indeed it is, vote for me. Checked out the shanners, read it as 'the shatners' at first.

*ahem* - Have you never heard 'Oh Superman' by Laurie Andersen? I described it as Laurie Andersen meets Grandaddy, and thats pretty much what it is - its *meant* to sound like that!

Still, thanks for the feedback - its all good

My pleasure. The 'Oh Superman' song passed me by I'm afraid. I try to be constructive in my criticisms - as you say feedback is good. :)
