The IT Crowd

What about this background laughter?

Am I only one who hates background laughter on comedies? Was this introduced for *thicker* people to get the jokes? I understand the laughter if show is performed live - on stage, but i think that it's rarely the case with most TV comedies.

I would be a proud member of lintch mob going after the guy who introduced artifical laughter to TV

Wrong...

It is ten times better than Hyperdrive, it just isn't the definition of 'good' :D

Worst part is, if Nick Frost had taken his character from Spaced, the over zealous army wannabe type and placed him as the captain, then I think it would have been half decent.

Also if they dropped the woman/gorilla that is the main female in the series and replaced her with a bikini clad Seven of Nine.

And then completely re-wrote the script so that it wasn't completely wank.

Then I think it would be ok.

Morris' bits are quite funny and overall it isn't bad, but if this is Channel 4's new comedy big gun it just underlines how hard up the channel is for quality output. Still, rather something written by Graham Linehan featuring Chris Morris than more Jimmy Carr/Justin Lee Collins shite.

Just watched ep 1.

Same structure and comedy style as Father Ted... gag based sitcom with slapstick... setup, punchline, setup, punchline. It's not a style I like.

I will say one thing about this.

It is 'slightly' better then Hyperdrive.

Yeah, that was my verdict.

The humour contained in the program was truly awful, even morris couldn't "polish the turd".

At least father Ted had funny jokes instead of "Have you tried to turn it off an on again".

I've watched the first 10 mins and quite enjoyed it, shows promise. Such things always take a while to develop, the comedy is character based so you have to get to know them. The R4 review seemed to conclude that the second episode is better, although they liked the first well enough. I like the retro aspect of a proper sitcom without any coarse language, means I can watch it with my kids and warn them about the dangers of a career in IT.

Actually I reckon it should work wonders for our reputation as a section, the old team's stock response to all calls was "reboot" whereas we're always "happy to help".

If you had a seriously allergic reaction to it then my guess is that you're basically Moss but with less street cred and fewer girlfriends. :p

Agree – it makes a nice change to see a new British comedy show that doesn't sell itself as being "dark" and "twisted". Even the generally excellent Peep Show was a bit guilty of that.

I think the main reason I don't find it funny is that is a pretty accurate mirror of working in IT. Having to deal with people who don't listen, people who think that you can manage an IT section by not even bothering to learn the basics.

I've also had to deal with IT people who think they are special and above everyone else.

So I suppose thats why I don't get the jokes. Because there aren't any.

no swearing but drinking beating people up and going on dates with prostitutes

but no swearing so it's ok......

wierd

and no it's not acurate is so compleatly over the top as to not even resemble real life even slightly .. it has not straight man ... the one "normal" person traped in the twisted world. thats what it really needs ...

Strange because I've had similar experiences and have always found the whole thing to be rather amusing. Perhaps you take IT a little too seriously? ;)

I thought that's what Jen was meant to be.

i thought so at first but she just feel compleatly incompetent just in the oposite direction. you don't get that straight guy feel to it ... admitedly the straight guy is often just as stanger as the suposed idiot/s but he is always fighting against it if inefectivly... look at say ted from father ted ... he plays a great straight man role that reflects both his own brand of idiocyand the total lunacy of those who suround him. jen jyust cpompleatly fails to do this

Because the amusemant value wears off after the seven zillionth time of repeating something...

Really? It's making me laugh (a bit), and it is only the first episode; it may get better.

It's not as good as lot of stuff, but it's better than 2 Pints of Lager. :)
