Human Spider was on C4 again tonight
Climbing the Petronas Towers in KL.. (in sep 2009)
Very impressive climb, he started at night so as not to get caught at the balconies by the police, he climbed all the way to the top and then climbed round the large ball and up the pinnacle before standing upright (arms outstretched) on the very tip top of the whole thing. Incredible .. he said it was like a fantasy climb.
What a chap! Insane .. The image of him standing on the very top was iconic ..

I was disappointed that the programme turned out to be a repeat of the one shown previously with a little bit tacked on the end.
It strikes me that "responsible" only makes sense in the context of "responsible for..." What is he responsible for here?
1) His family. But that is between him and them.
2) Any lives lost as a result of his activities. But this is purely hypothetical. I can't see that it is really any more likely to happen than for a lot of other everyday activities.
3) Taking the time of the emergency services.
4) Causing disruption, such as the closing of roads and bridges.
So it really comes down to whether what he does is worth the time and expense it causes. Well I come down on the side of saying that it is, in some sense, beautiful. Like the Man on Wire guy, seeing somebody standing perched where no human being should be touches some emotion that few things can reach. It truly is a form of art. And he provides it to us for nothing other than the cost of the disruption. And to me, that's worth a bit of emergency services' time and expense.

This guy is a climber, he just climbs buildings rather than rocky mountains.
Is there anything wrong with climbers?
I have a cousin who has climbed K2 and Everest. He does not show off about it, he just does it because he feels a calling to the mountains.
That this guy climbed the Petronas towers and then stood upright on the very pinnacle is way cool, he is a one off, most people could not stand on something the size of the pinnacle if it was on the ground, he did it miles into the sky, into the clouds in fact.
