The Human Spider on C4 now

Of course it's irresponsible. He has been scaling skyscrapers for over ten years now though, so I guess it's about as dangerous (for him with his massive amount of talent)a hobby as any other extreme sport or even drug use.

so? the woman knew what he was like when she married him. they didn't have to have kids. if his lifestyle is such a problem, why are they still together?

What's that got to do with him being a tool? He's still a reckless irresponsible fool

Very interesting debate on his private life - like it's anything to do with anyone here :D

Visually very Iggy Pop, got that partic counter-culture marketing vibe set to 10.

Fwiw, I think the interesting thing is he's a genuine adrenilin junkie not, for example, one of these wannabees wearing some new kind of snow shoe.

Also interesting how conventional society responds to these outsiders, especially when it comes to their families it seems.

I think an example here is that he climbed that building without taking his medication that treats his epilipsy.
that's up to him isn't it?

epilepsy medication can really affect you. if the dose isn't right, and sometimes even if it is, he might not be able to climb.

that was put on for the cameras IMO.

if he's into controlling the risk as much as he says he is and as much as his longevity implies he is, he'd have taken more than enough medication with him to china.

why rely on being able to get hold of more in a country were you dont speak the language and know nothing about the healthcare system?

i think she probably expected him to gve it up before he was 50 :p

am i wrong to find him just a little but sexy? :o must be the french thing, i do like foreigners :p
he is utterly mad also

i felt quite sorry or his son when he was being questioned quite tactlessly about his fathers mortality. As a mother I doubt I would have allowed that to take place. You could see how uncomfortable he was with that line of questioning and hear the emotion in his voice so why he was pressed to answer was beyond me.

Looking at the way he climbed the buildings and how easy he made it look and considering how fit, strong and skillful he is, its probably about as risky as one of us running up and down the stairs.

I don't think its nearly as dangerous as it appears, just the fact that its so far off the scale of acceptably safe behaviour makes it seem more risky to us mere mortals.

He is of course still fucking amazing for having the balls and skill to be able to do it.

As are those who take drugs at the weekend without knowing what's in 'em? Those who drive too fast - not to metion F1 drivers? Those who eat that Japanese fish that could kill you if prepared wrong? Those who commute across London on a bicycle listening to i-pods....?! The list could go on and on and on.

He lives his life with passion and, as others have said, he's been with his wife for 25 years so clearly something is working in their relationship. To have a passion - and to be able to make a living from it - fair play to him.

Not entirely sure about the leather suit/thinning hair combo though :D

I'm sure you'll make a very fine parent one day, Mr March.

Why thankyou sir. :)

All I'm saying here is that if he said he was taking controlled risks, as he did say on film, then I can't see anything controlled about climbing up a skyscraper when you're not on the medication you're supposed to be on that helps control any possible fits. Of course if the documentary makers were lying about it, then I'd be wrong, but that's how it was presented on screen.

Also, to say that just because he makes it look easy, that it's perfectly safe is silly. As one of the climbers said in the film, it doesn't matter how experienced you are, it only takes one little slip and you'll fall.

Just to add, not taking anything away from what he does, because it is a superhuman feat.

But I just don't think that he's somebody to look up to...

;)

Climbing a tall building without ropes is irresponsible.
Doing it whilst in constant risk of having an epileptic fit is more irresponsible.
Doing it in countries which might lock you up is even more responible.
Then there's the fact that he has a young family to support.
What a wanker.

oh, for gods sake.

so people should be dutiful animals who never break the rules, even if it hurts no one except themselves.

Out of interest, would people respect him that much if he fell to his death whilst trying to attach that silly advertising banner on one of the buildings that he was climbing? :hmm:

All quite right but wouldn't the world be dull if there weren't people like him about?
