The Hold Steady - tell me more!

He's starting to irritate me again now.

It's alright in small doses innit. I remember someone played it in the venue one night and I hadn't heard it for months and it was alright but there's so much better out there like the Ladyhawk album.

Catch them live if you can, they're awesome. I saw them back in... March I think it was, and they played a couple of songs from a new album, sounded good, not heard anything about a release date yet though.

I also like them because they got me into Bruce Springsteen, who I saw at Cardiff Millenium Stadium the other day. It was immense.

As El Jefe said earlier they also rip The Replacements.
Try listening to "Tim" - there are three of the greatest songs ever on there, specifically:
Left Of The Dial
Bastards of Young
Here Comes A Regular

If you like THS you'll shit yourself with the first two and the third is a ballad extrodinaire which gave a hint to the beaty of Paul Westerberg's later solo work.

Keyboard player's got the most punchable face in the world too. These little things matter, dammit :D

ha ha ...was reading through this thread and apart from the last album, I still keep going back to the Hold Steady on iTunes all the time

Anyway Franz the keyboard player has left the band

Hope they keep keys in the line-up as they were really effective like here

His work though seems very different from the band...kind of gyspy vaudevillle.

They had a new long player out last August.

On the basis of this one, I'd say it's "very Hold Steady". But you know what? That ain't so bad.
