The Haka

I was at Twickenham today.

When the Haka was performed, 80,000 completely drowned out the proceedings with a loud and deeply moving chorus of Swing Low, Sweet Chariot. I imagine the specially placed ground mikes enabled the TV audience to get a perfectly clear rendition of that Kiwi tomfoolery with a spot of distant singing in the far background. In the ground, the Haka was inaudible.

Oh, and I saw Peter O'Toole about 6 seats from me.

Couldn't hear the Haka on telly neither.

Not sure which I hate more though, the Haka or Swing fucking Low

Lose/lose
The Haka is an infantile peice of showmanship elevated to the status of untouchable social icon, whereby any appropriate response is frowned upon.

"Swing Low" is a dirge of a pace and range that 80,000 beer-fuelled hearties can bawl the piece out and make a pretty decent sound.

Inside the ground the Haka looked pretty silly, while the home supporters singing rumbled up through the ground, through the seats and into your tripe.

Lose / win.

:p

Suggestion on Timesonline debate about haka was that they should play YMCA over the tannoy as NZ indulge themselves!!:D
