I don't know that I have a particular defintion of pop music - I can define it as opposed to classical, but that's not really the same thing. (perhaps a thread?) I can't see where you'd put Dylan other than pop, though.

You define it relative to other things.. I guess alot of us define it in opposition to err, rock, heavy metal, dance etc.. I guess it depends how well you know your 'genres'.

I've already tried to define it - pop is characterised by an explicit commercial intent, strong simple catchy melodies, simple clichéd lyrics and high production values.
So anyone from the Supremes to Girls Aloud are pop, but people from Bob Dylan to Nick Cave ain't
