The Greatest Musical City (Nominations Thread)

Bit of an iffy one - none of the music was ever recorded there, by people from there.
Bah, you and your common sense. Let the people speak ;)

Though since I've not given a sensible suggestion on this thread yet I'll add to the boringly predictable chorus of Detroit lovers. It's obviously the winner, innit?

In terms of what I listen to:

London
New Orleans
Montreal
Memphis
Glasgow
Seattle
New York

In no particular order.

Ok, it's been a while now so I've counted the votes.

Not easy - sometimes you have to pick out a nomination from a debate, sometimes the suggestion can't be included (Kained's nomination for the whole of Southern California contained what I took as a nomination for Berkeley, so I went for that.)

Since only 12 nominations possible, those are any gaining 3 votes or above. Apologies if there are any miscounts but I have tried to make it fair..

  1. Detroit 13
  2. New York 10
  3. Glasgow 8
  4. Manchester 8
  5. London 5
  6. Memphis 5
  7. New Orleans 5
  8. Liverpool 4
  9. Nashville 4
  10. Bristol 3
  11. Chicago 3
  12. Wigan 3
Los Angeles 2
Minneapolis 2
Montreal 2
Philadelphia 2
Seattle 2
Sheffield 2
Berkeley 1
Berlin 1
Birmingham 1
Chapel Hill 1
Clarksdale 1
Dakar 1
Dusseldorf 1
Havana 1
Kingston 1
Lagos 1
Leicester 1
macon 1
Stoke 1
Stourbridge 1

Final poll here

By the way, i still think Wigan is iffy - it's a town known for championing a certain musical form, not creating it, but I didn;t want to overeditorialise so i left it in.

Just looked through most my most recently played on iTunes and at the moment it is:

Chapel Hill/Raleigh/Durham aka The Golden Triangle, NC
Nashville
Belfast
Boston
Philadelphia
LA
Calgary

durr...was multi-tasking and didn't notice this was the nominations thread

does that mean I have to go in the sinbin for 50 minutes and listen to the new Coldplay (as in Coldplay from LONDON) album?

Croydon. I know it ain't a city as such but Animal Nightlife came from here and the drummers dad was called Bruno.
