<<< June Tabor - Waltzing Matilda

One of mine would be She Moved Through the Fair by her. Can't find a version by her, so here's one by Anne Briggs.

All the themes... love, loss/being lost, displacement, reconciliation, family, realising what's important in life...

The two lines that always get me... 'In Yorkshire near Rotherham...', I have family there, near Rotherham, had, they're all long gone now. And 'T'was the 5th of November ...', don't know why.

    copliker ...

10 minute long version of Wayfaring Stranger by a bunch of precocious brats.

Ed Sheeran is one of the many many murderers of it.

+ the Nina Simone live version...the lovely wistfulness replaced by a sense of profound sadness

For some reason I had completely forgotten...

Anyone who has spent time in Ibiza will have heard my mate ciddy filling the streets and beaches with this. It is a difficult one not to join in with. A truly Great folk song.
  9. Kaka Tim

    Kaka Tim Crush the Saboteurs!

young women deals with a sea captains amorous advances by singing the whole ship's crew to sleep, robbing them all blind and fucking off back home.

I camped on loads of archaeological digs where this was sung endlessly. Not a great folk fan but I guess it worked its way under my skin eventually.
