The Great Guilt-free Gear Thread

Wookey

Muppet is not a slur
Like you, I despise the sweatshop ethic of companies like Adidas and Nike, and for the most part I buy unbranded goods. But some things (like good trainers) are near impossible to buy without supporting some form of eco-damaging or people-damaging company.

LOOK NO FURTHER!!

I have just bought a pair of trainers from Anti-Apathy along with Worn Again, who do a range of shoes for men and lady-men, made from recycled materials like prison blankets, inner-tubes and old jeans.

My new pair is made of an old man's tweed suit, and e-leather (a type of recycled leather filament). Each pair is unique, but mine look similar to this:

Mon question is this: Know YOU of any eco-friendly clothes shops, worker-friendly trainer manufacturers, or recycled gear places, from which I could purchase me garb guilt-free?

Add them here, do.:)

Kickers shoes, for Kevin. We buy them for school and they last ages (or until he grows out of them). They cost about £65 but they are worth every penny.

Are they particularly green, or worker-friendly? Perhaps they're made in the UK?

Kickers were the IN shoe when we were at school, if you had Kickers (complete with that little tag) then you were defo in the cool gang.:D

Freitag bags, wallets ect. are expensive, but they are amazing. Made from recycled truck tarpaulins, car seats, used air bags. Mine has made it through a war with gbl and won.

is howies still an ethical company? quite like their clothes but they are a bit pricy

We pledge to give 1% of our turnover or 10% of pre-tax profits (whichever is greater) to grass-root environmental and social projects. To find out more about our donations, please visit the website. It is only a small amount but as our company grows we will be able to give more. Which gives us a nice reason to want to grow.

Ah, yes, that would make sense. Sorry, dude! I'm a bit of an airhead today, but it's a great site, huh?

I'm just looking, but yeah, I like the bags. They would match the inner-tube shoes I want to get from Worn Again's new range.

I know a few people who've got worn again trainers - they seem to fall apart quite quickly :(

They aren't as robust feeling as those all-plastic things, I think because there's all different textures of material sown together. Mine are holding up, but I wouldn't go puddle-jumpin in 'em. That's for wellybobs.

Vegetarian Shoes are proper Brighton hippies who get lots of their stuff made in co-operative factories and the like. It's nice to animals too :)

Also their stuff is indestructible. I have a pair of their boots that`s about a century old now. Still in good shape.
