The Gerald of Wales: Three course fine dining on a train that runs from Holyhead to Cardiff

    Wait for the better weather in 2019 - trust me there is no finer thing in railway life for that price - but to have dinner between say Cardiff and Shrewsbury on this train. I believe you can get the dinner service on a standard class ticket (they will quote you for the meal)

    We did it about 5 years ago - it was an excellent 3 course meal , with the joy of a bottle of wine and the superb Borders scenery. Not to mention semaphore signalling. Good news is that the plans are for 3 daily journeys in the new franchise , giving even more options for dining with a luncheon train.

    I am told the breakfasts are superlative - friend had one between Hereford and Cardiff.
