woman in the pet shop said get them about the same size as his head.

so i did.

and they sat and chirped all fucking night

i suspect they drove him as mad as us. so tonight they are in the spare room. i put a bit of orange in the cricket box and they all leaped on it, so i think that works. derv chucked some fish food in this morning. i'm seriously considering buying pre loaded ones off ebay for the same price.
get male ones it's only the wimmin ones which squeak...

Yay lizards! I like lizards. :)

I knew a guy who kept water dragons - they were very pretty. Ali looks lovely!

Awwww I love lizards! Never had one, couldn't be dealing with their food tbh (it's bad enough when our downstairs neighbours lizard food escapes into our flat and chirps all fucking night long), but I do like them.

Whiskers, he is stunning. Word of warning tho' don't rely solely on meal worms for his diet...they're deficient in something, calcium?, from what I remember when I kept all manner of reptiles when a nipper.

i am rapidly learning about food - seems crickets are mealworms are the staple diet but often they are shells cos the pet shop doesnt feed them anything. wax worms and locusts are a good source of calcium but they have loads of protein so shouldnt be fed all the time. it seems i can buy pre loaded (ie they ahve been fed with good things for lizards) crickets/locusts from ebay, so i think i will.

garf/teeps - how much/often do you feed Gex? (great photo garf btw, i'm gonna try and get a better one of Ali later)

they have chewed through my headphones

In addition to several pairs of headphones and every loudspeaker cable in the house, mine's also been through 2 telephones. It would be more but when he chewed the second one up we didn't bother replacing it :D

about 1 week in four basically the best way to feed them is based on their enviroment because they are exothermic animals there feeding patterns and their metabolism is defined by the tempriture of their enviroment not their internals like ours is this will therefore govern how often they wish to feed. gekos will eat it if it's there in front of them but they will eventually stop if they no longer feel hungery...

so the best way to work it out for the first month or so is to add about 2 pints of crikets to the verbeium with some lettuce or cucmber and see what your geko eats if it noshed the lot and is still mobile and visably hunting then it's likely that your verberium is too cold for it if it eats a few then lets the rest run about then it's likely that it's too hot... if it noshes the lot then it's prolly about right temp and it'll get a little fat (it's tail is it's main source of fat storage and will grow or shrink dependant on if it's over fed) they also tend to walk lower and waddle more when they are overly full...

you an buy thermometers fro the pet shop which should be placed in the courner opposite the heating lamp. You should have a heating lamp rather than a heating rock as they have sensative bellies :)

you're a star garf :)

ali has come with a heating pad directly under a light. the light is right in the middle of his tank but we were thinking of moving it to one end so he can have a cool bit and a warm bit. atm he's hovering at about 80 on his thermometers.

he's eaten all 4 crickets i gave him yesterday

I've got loads in my house, they're everywhere  Not big uns like that though, just small versions. They eat the mosquitoes and any other nasty winged vermin that might stray onto my goddam property. They make lovely comforting sounds when I'm drifting off to sleep - 'Chak-chak-chak-chak-chak' - and they're fun when they're chasing each other around the walls.

Love em :)

Long live the gecko!

they dont really have teeth to speak of but they might nibble you.

i must admit i'm less cool with it than i thought i might be :o i think i'll need a bit of encouragement from derv before i can take ali out of his tank on my own. yesterday he was cool with derv for at least 20mins though.
