The future of public transport in London

how about getting rid of travel cards on oyster card, so that there was always an incentive to walk or cycle? the cost of a single journey could be reduced to compensate somewhat. i guess the downside would be that some people who always had to use public transport would have to pay slightly more, and it would work out cheaper to occasionally drive rather than use public transport.

but to me it seems wrong that any journey should be free - there should always be an incentive for walking/cycling, even if you have a travelcard...

What incentive is there to walk or cycle, even locally, with the weather like it was yesterday?

None, really. Cycling is not a 100% answer to city-wide or local transportation, but it is a vital part of the mix (and needs to be larger)

A lot more research needs to be done on this idea. TfL is actively looking into the idea of making ticketing fairer for the occasional public transport traveller, roughly 13% of Londoners.

Nice idea in theory but much too easy to scam.

not really, swipe it in two places, like at a junction into zone 2 and somewhere else central like a velib station and you can't use your card all day too. TBH its a bit of a rubbish idea but some simple incentive would be nice... as if you have a long term travelcard you loose the money on it if you want to cycle occasionally.
