The football madhouse- Man City bid £135m for Ronaldo

Most mancs I know support United and I've met loads of City fans from the south east.

Go to Manchester on any non match day and count the shirts. There's United shirts everywhere

this bollox about who has the most support in manchester has been going on for years, united have always had a bigger share of the support in manchester, even going back before 92/93 and what has happened since

They pisstaking's already begun. There was a lovely, good natured interchange on teh news between representatives of both Utd and City. The jist basically was that the Utd bloke still claimed to the bigger club, history, tradition etc

To which the City bloke jibbed:
"Are you the most supported club in Manchester'
'Er, no, I'll give you that'

'Do we have massively more money that you?'
"Ok, yep'

'Are you in far more debt that we are?'
'I'll give you that too'

Cut to City bloke smiling widely, enjoying the wind up.

Liked gobshite Gallacher's comment too, that every time a Utd supported filled up their car then City's transfer coffers would benefit.

I heard that comment too :D

Pish. Places like Salford and the centre of Manchester are City's heartlands. I don't know one w/c Mancunian who supports Utd - it's all the ponces and media types in wine bars.
;)

Strange also that the rep of Man Utd (or the supporters club) even agreed with his counterpart on that score.

And from Wikipedia, not great admittedly, but I'm lazy:

A common stereotype is that City fans come from Manchester proper, while United fans come from elsewhere. A 2002 report by a researcher at Manchester Metropolitan University found that a higher proportion of City season ticket holders came from Manchester postcode areas (City 40%, United 29%). Within the City of Manchester itself the proportions were 17% City, 7% United.[28] United had a higher number of season ticket holders living in Manchester postcode areas, as they had more season ticket holders overall, and the report contained a caveat that the number of City season tickets had since increased (the report was compiled before City's move to the City of Manchester Stadium), and following stadium expansion United have more than doubled their number of season ticket holders

Looks like we seem to have touched something of a raw red nerve here. :)

Oh the comedy if Citeh do the double over ManUre again this season. :)

Funny ain't it? I give some stats showing that, a much higher proportion of season ticket holders for City are drawn from the centre (city) of Manchester (over 2 to 1) than Utd and Deareg responds with a largely irrelevant willy-waving show of attendance figures. Probably whilst eating a prawn sandwich and repeating the marketing mantra 'world's biggest club.'
;)

Bizarrely Brixton used to be the home of a heftily sized Man City crowd, one of the fan sites and/or crews using a local as a London meeting point. I think they were drawn by the buffet - a few cheap sausages and chips in a grimey pub. Classy as always City fans - some good mates in there, with a large number of Salford refugees amongst them. It's been gastro-pubbed out of existence now.
:(

How does that relate to the number of Mancunians watching either City or Utd though?

how the fuck does it not? as the statistics demonstrate, united have always had a bigger support than city so i would have thought that meant more mancunians watch united than city, but seeing as you have some mates from salford, what would i know?

for it too have touched a raw nerve their would have had to have been an element of truth to what he was saying

Have you had a knock on the head and lost your logic somehow? I'm not sure if you're being deliberately obtuse or just plain daft

Higher overall attendance doesn't mean that there are more Mancunians in the crowd - they could all come from the far east and the Surrey suburbs for all you know. It's akin to claiming that Chelsea, with a larger attendance than nearby Fulham, must have more Sloanes as fans. It's a total logical fallacy, as if fans can't travel and that season ticket holders must be based locally - this is Manchester Utd remember?
:D

And when was the last time that loyal City fans, sick of their club's corporate and ownership shenanigans, left in large numbers to set up their own local club for proper fans (FCUM)?

Element of truth? have a look at the silly info you've come up, think about your defective reasoning and then come back with something approaching relevant evidence to back up your belief. So far, Mr Full of Shit, you've just blustered and offered jack all, apart from the petulant little outbursts that is.

fuck can you wriggle, cockney reds in the fucking nineteen forties? salford and central manchester being city heartlands? you just make things up as you go along, i post facts and you dismiss them because you have some mates from salford,

only once since football attendance records were kept did city ever finish with a bigger average crowd than united, yet you, you fucking tit still cant find a way past your own narrow minded bias to accept that united have always had a bigger manchester based support than city.

the fact that we now also have a bigger fan base outside our hometown is because we are a bigger club. the fact that we have a bigger fan base outside our hometown than any other english club is because we are the biggest english club.

basic common sense?

Blah, blah, blah, obfuscate. Show us the stats - if it's that obvious that more that more Mancs support Utd it must be easy to prove, surely.

For all your peeved anger, you've still nothing to show that's even half as indicative as those Wikipedia stats from the Uni research. All you keep bleating about is overall attendance figures - which have no relevant link really. Jesus - have you ever done anything involving research methodology or shown any logical ability in the past?

Basic common sense? You ain't shown none. It's bloody laughable that you're getting your knickers in a twist, especially when you're claiming not to be bothered. It's bloody precious in fact.
:D

I mean come on, if you came from Manchester and had the greatest club in the world on your doorstep, you'd have to be the sort of cretin you get at Eastlands to support the other mob.

Yeah, what kind of a fool would live in a city with two football teams and choose to support the less succesful one? :p

Rubbish. Salford's closer to Utd's stadium perhaps, but there's been a strong bias towards City every time I've visited. Perhaps I'm only going to pubs and visiting people on one side of the fence I'll concede, but it's surprised me given the proximity to Old Trafford.

Notable that Salford's favourite son, Ricky Fatton unashamedly supports City too.

Was up at the game re Chelski, had to share this chant with y'all:

"Fill up your motorcar/We're gonna buy Kaka!"

Braziliant, my jealous red friends

oh calm down, allow us our moment! what a display today 6-0, unreal. That Robinho stepover of James and the round the back kick was one of most sublime pieces of skill ever witnessed in the Premiership. Is this all actually happening?!?!? gx
