The Favourite Doctor (Who) Plus or Minus Thread

W.HARTNELL 7 - Slow start and pretty uninteresting
P.TROUGHTON 5 - Things really picked up here. Call him average.
J.PERTWEE 4 - More saved by the stories than his acting
T.BAKER 1 - Duh.
P.DAVISON 2 - Loved the stories, and a great actor.
C.BAKER 10 - Made me want to gouge my eyes out. Ate all the pies, too.
S.McCOY 8 - Bless. He did his best and I like to think positively of him. It's not his fault it all turned to shit.
P.McGANN 9 - Abortion of a movie.
C.ECCLESTON 6 - An interesting twist. I'm not sure it would've stood up for very long though.
D.TENNANT 3 - Brings a lovely new energy to things. Manic in a Tom Baker sort of way.

W.HARTNELL - 10 (How did the programme get past its first episode with this bloke in charge?)

I would've thought the Hartnell days would've gone down well in the OfGoths household - all gloom and shadows, and the doctor was a bonkers old man with long (for his age & those days) white hair.

I remember quite fancying Ace, who was Sylvester McCoy's assistant for a bit.

And of course the wonderful Tegan.

Good point. He is the nearest to goth-ness I suppose!

fat shouty rude bastard with a good looking but very annoying american assistant peri-peri sauce.

Of his whole run only trial of a timelord was any good, largely for that ridiculouse fight with the Valeyard

Sorry to drag down the thread with such terrible sexist nonsense but if we're talking assistants surely there can only be one... PERI! PERI! PERI!

I'm really pleased to see that Eccleston is so popular here - I thought he was brilliant myself but his time as the Doc seems to have become a bit forgotten in some circles because of the impact Tennant has had.

W.HARTNELL 9 - Patronising old git.
P.TROUGHTON 7 - Proper character actor goodness. Thank Christ he didn't do the role in blackface, as he was originally planning to...
J.PERTWEE 10 - The Doctor as a Tory. FFS.
T.BAKER 2 - The Daddy. Also, his autobiography is one of the funniest books ever.
P.DAVISON 4 - The Doctor who got me into Doctor Who. In retrospect, though, he was a good actor trapped in some godawful stories. Caves of Androzani was good, though.
C.BAKER 6 - Unfairly pillioried for dressing as Ronald McDonald and shouting a lot (the producer's idea; Baker wanted a black costume). He's redeemed himself in the audio plays, though.
S.McCOY 5 - Veered wildly between shite and great. He was bloody good in the Dalek one, and I like his work in (some of) the audio plays; check out The Fearmonger.
P.McGANN 8 - On the telly, he's a tedious Greatest Hits Doctor. But he's pretty good in the audio plays.
C.ECCLESTON 1 - One of the few actors to approach the role as an actor working from a character bible. Bloody brilliant, and we lost him too soon.
D.TENNANT 3 - He's not quite up there with Eccleston and Tom, but he's doing a fine job.

I think you mean 'fairly pillioried for eating too many McDonalds' :D

I'm too young to remember much Dr Who when it was first on, but I have a good mate and ex-boyfriend who is a complete Dr Who geek, so I've seen a fair bit recently...

T.BAKER - 1
P.DAVISON - 4

Oh, he was alright in his first season - then it was taken off-air for 18 months. I guess he took to comfort eating as a way to dull the pain. Or maybe he was hoping to get big enough that they'd have to lose the coat.

Fun Geek Fact: when Peter Davison did that cameo appearance last year, he'd porked out a bit and had to wear Colin Baker's trousers from the regeneration scene... :D
