The England vs Trinidad and Tobago thread

ch750536

Every little counts
Rooney playing or not, I go for a 0-0, possibly 1-0 to England.

They worked hard against Sweden, will show England up if they are not too careful.

england by a near-cricket score - a chance for them to 'answer the critics' before getting dicked in the next round

More controversial tactics from Sven as he uses all his subs in the first 10 minutes. Owen tired again, falls asleep in dressing room at halftime. 2-1 to Trinidad.

When did England arrive at the last game of the group stage of a major tournament already qualified for the knockout stages? Blood years. I think we managed it last in 1982. So I bet we will stuff this game up. Were I scottish, (and even being English, as an 'insurance' bet) I would put around a fiver on a trinidad win and a tenner on a draw, if I was back in the UK. Actually I doubt trinidad will actually win, but could well frustrate us like they did Sweden.

I think we'll scrape a 1-0.

Excuse the gloating but a mate emailed me last week to say he had a spare ticket. I was already flying out tomorrow to try to get to some games (other than Brasil v Oz, which I already have tickets for). Get in!

I think it'll be cricket style as T&T have overplayed themselves in that game against Sweden and will look ragged.

Ingurland to win comfortably. T&T to get patronised beyond belief by the media. With no mention whatsoever of them playing their former "colonial masters". ;)

Overplayed themselves? They may have defended doggedly, no real surprise at 10 men, but I don't reckon they'll cope with the heat and tiredness any worse than England, who did their usual headless and chicken no ball-retention impression.

Work-a-day victory for England - 2-0.

Crouch from a Beckham set peice. Then Owen from a dodgey penalty (Agree that Joe Cole is most likely culprit/hero).

England 3-2, sweaty set piece fest

i'm gonna put some cash on John Terry scoring first (probably off Beckham inswinger free kick from 30 yards after 14mins, 12 secs, foul by John, S)

then Beckham to score off free kick himself at 27mins

then penalty at 33mins by Lampard

Then boring second half, England get knackered and concede 2 goals, one a penalty, and shit their pants, but scrape through

Failing that, 0-0

Think we will stick 4 or 5 on them....they won't score put money on it, thoguh the odds won't be great.

Still think england have as good a chance of any as winning this one, not getting caught up with tabloid / scumbag neandathal histeria though nothing I have seen as frightens me...tis a cup competition watch this space....

Brazil won't win it...:)

I'm not expecting a classic tonight. I can see a scrappy first half with Trinidad battling like heroes and then a slow second half collapse as they're beaten not so much by England's great footballing tactics but by their greater fitness.

A copy of my post on the other thread with an update (mods feel free to bin the other one):

On paper England should win comfortably, but I have some concerns:

- Owen being so badly out of sorts against Paraguay.

- The ridiculous legal dispute that looked as though it might preclude Rooney from taking part. Although it's now sorted by the examination of Rooney ....

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/world_cup_2006/teams/england/5082118.stm

.... we don't need this distraction.

- The bell-ends at FIFA, who for some reason are insisting that teams have to be in particular hotels on the night before games, which resulted in England players being kept up until 2am last night because the Germans were, not unnaturally, celebrating their victory over Poland and virtually guaranteed spot in the knock-out phases.

- The heat and humidity, which is not going to be much better than on Saturday and will, of course, suit many of T & T's players. I don't think England's superior fitness will be a factor. Currently 33 degrees and humidity of 46.

I think another game in which England struggle but eventually run out 2-0 winners. Terry from a free-kick and a Gerrard howitzer to make us all breathe a sigh of relief at the end.

1-1

T&t midfield too powerful and england resorting to breakouts and throwing bricks to Crouch.

Sorry, the Sweden result will leave the table ready for an exciting last game.

An abbreviated rehash of my post on the other thread:

If England can't comfortably beat a team that lost to Wales less than a month ago they should be castrated.
