bloody minging creature.
Charlie is going back to Chicago today.
Chilling out after a nice long forest walk.
Excuse all the crap on the fireplace. I can’t be arsed to put all my shit away.
Discharged from the vet and first time off the lead in ages. She went bonkers.
Childminder just got a puppy - 10weeks old and sooo soft and fluffy
That's gonna be a biiiig dog
^ Grown German Shepherd dogs scare the shit out of me/give me the 'Nazi dog' shudders (I know this is massively unfair but early trauma + stereotyping, I do understand NOT ALL ALSATIANS and that they can be gentle protective clowns etc) - but as pups they are unbearably cute! .... started typing 'cubs' instead of 'pups' because they make me think they're like small magic cartoon bears...
Can I have some lamb please?
I SAID CAN I HAVE SOME LAMB PLEASE!
Do you get stopped and told he is the most handsome boy oh yes he is everywhere you go?
Pretty much, yeah...
“Why has you put me in jail?”
(Waiting semi-patiently for bacon whilst in a cafe.)
Incidentally, he’s a twice-failed sheepdog now. His first-time experiences with the dickheads that ruined and abused him just left him too stressed about being asked to do things in a field of sheep. He’d do it but he hated it, and exhibited lots of stress behaviours. So we knocked it on the head.
He really loves agility though. He’s up and down that dogwalk and see-saw, through the tunnels and over the jumps before you can catch breath. It’s definitely his thing!
kabbes - have you thought about gundog training for Ted?
You don't have to use him as a gundog, but dogs that take to it seem to enjoy the training enormously and get the same benefits as any other training provides: brainwork, obedience, socialisation etc...
It’s a nice idea but he will NOT hold things. He just doesn’t seem to even understand the concept of holding things! He is either scared of or ignores toys, is frightened of moving balls and drops ropes the moment you give them to him. I think he’d be an even worse gundog than a sheepdog!
i want a dog so badly, looking at this thread makes me happy and sad at the same time.
What’s the barrier?
I'm in a place that would be dog heaven but its a short term rental, no security of tenure. Plus the cat, but I think he would adapt. For now I just get to borrow a neighbour's ancient lab for (slow) walks which is nice.
Don't be sad, look at the thread as being a catalogue for your future dog - or indeed you could live your 'i want a dog' thing through the thread - lots of dogness, just without the minging creature that rubs himself in the dead carcass of a deer...
Though I'm not sure I'd like to be always having to give them my bacon/lamb etc
He's not normally nervous about bangs. Just as well because the range at Spadeadam has been going bang loudly enough to rattle our house - partly via ground waves - several mornings a week for several weeks.
However, there has been another one which made me jump a few minutes ago ...
Not to mention the occasional shittageddon
Sometimes they find things to eat they shouldn’t eat. It does not play well.
It won't help Ben - or you - but the very large bangs you've been hearing/feeling are from an R&D site within Spadeadam that tests the effect on materials and structures of very high pressure blastwaves and very high temperature fires.
It may not feel like it, and I doubt it will bring you much comfort, but the paperwork required to get some of the more disruptive tests done is considerable...
I was scrubbing dog puke out the carpet while trying to stop the same dog from eating it at half past midnight if that curbs any desires
Eta: it wasn't the lamb, the eejit ate a load of butter.
“I’m sitting on your feet and I will not move”
Yeah, I know about that site ... a friend of mine was based there during testing of a project a few years ago and then there was that blowing up a "lot of gunpowder" test (5th of November style) - we heard that one !
The gas tank tests are usually quieter.
e2a - today, the bangs have continued, at about hourly intervals (although I wasn't timing them exactly)
I've been playing with Meatball trying to encourage following scent. He's getting the hang of it I think. Anyone else trained dogs with scent? I've been doing various things as consistently as possible, like making him sit before a play with the toy (not shown in videos) which helps start train the response to finding stuff. I've also tried to encourage him to follow where I point and direct and have found stuff lamb1979 has hidden. He's a good doggo
