The dog thread is better than the cat thread, because it features dogs.

    Shirl Brexit my arse

    Thank you, you're lovely :)
I will get over it and I will get another dachshund. Possibly a puppy but I'll wait for the right one to come around, I wouldn't want to go through this again.
With the deerhounds, I've had 7 over 40 years and I've known the parents and often grandparents of all of them. I've always known exactly what I was getting.
I'll do plenty of research before I have another dachshund.

It's such a shame Shirl, but nice to hear that it hasn't put you off getting another one :)

And yeah Rebelda, terriers can be bitey little fuckers can't they :D
Sunny is getting loads better on that front already though

Aren't they just! But they are 100% capable of knowing that biting is for toys and chews and verboten on humans. Expecting less is doing them a disservice.

Jack Russells are actually the only dogs I’m afraid of every time I see one. I was bitten by one repeatedly (ie it bit me, I kicked it off, then it attacked me again, repeat) on a council estate in Leeds. Little fucker.

This makes me so sad :( there's people round here with JRs that just don't seem to give a monkeys about them being decently behaved (with other dogs rather than humans) and it means people assume all of them are shits. Cara has been kicked on two occasions on this assumption despite being lovely.

Totally understand being wary but like I say, those owners have done clever dogs a disservice.

I think some people fall into the trap of thinking 'it's only a small dog, it doesn't need proper training, I can always pick it up if it's being a knob'.
Makes me so sad because they can be such wonderful little dogs :(

Don't worry mate :D she is a dick tbf and some dogs can be badly bred - which is also not their fault I guess but what can you do.

I think early and intense socialisation for pups, with dogs, cats, kids and adults is key to minimise chances of biting - but even then you can never be sure.

Rebelda fucking hell, Cara's been kicked?!? Wtf, people are cunts :( Terriers do have attitude though, Ruby can sniff out a wrong un from way off and barks and growls like a motherfucker but she's never bit anyone *touches wood*

Shirl am so gutted for you, and the poor little sausage too - but you've done the right thing. Room for one more now though, so get looking :)

Yeah :( by men who were very drunk. Cara tried to play with their dogs and they booted her away, repeatedly, both times. It was horrible and not much you can do when someone is steaming drunk. It's a wonder she still enthusiastically loves all people :D I might end up biting someone though :hmm:

Fuck sake wtf is wrong with people :( I had an aggressive, violent, out of it cunt start on me and then try to boot Ruby, fortunately he missed. I picked her up and kept her under my arm, he'd already swung for and shoved me.

A guy saw all this happening so I asked him to call plod. About (genuinely) ten seconds later plod drive round the corner, cunt sees them, shouts at them then walks away swearing. Plod drive up to him, get out of the car, bundle him to the ground, sit on him and cuff the fucking nasty, violent, pointless shit head. Could easily have ended differently though :(

Cara's lovely :) Full on terrier attitude and instincts (like Ruby! ) combined with a lovely character and temperament. Best dogs ever

  16. Rebelda

She has no instinct at all. She's all waggy tail and bouncy even when someone's trying to kick her :D wouldn't have her any other way though.

That's horrible twentythreedom, I'd have been so scared.

I was totally scared. He was completely dead-eyed, totally beyond reasoning with. Terrifying tbh, never been so glad to see a police car

Got my mum and her dog coming round today. Should be an experience. Sophie's gotten much more confident in the garden and has started going outside more often than on our kitchen floor  so that's good. Can't wait till we can take her for a proper walk.

We've taken her outside to see cars and the park but we have to carry her.

Crate training is the next thing. Third night she pulled her bed out of it with her teeth and put it next to the sofa. She's not daft.

A rare picture of her in the crate.

Any tips on what to do at the school run? We've read people say you can't leave them at all, and then others say that they just have to get used to it.

It's about 30-45 minutes. What do you do? [IMG]

I left Cara, didn't crate her even but did baby gate off upstairs. Generally, if you're not there they'll sleep. 30 minutes to an hour is a really good length of time to start with :)

    She is so so cute.

Sunny sleeps in her crate at night (In our room) and we've just started on the process of leaving her in it during the day. Gradually building it up by 5 mins at a time.

ION she has just worked out how to scale the stairs :D
