The dog thread is better than the cat thread, because it features dogs.

Dog has been vomiting off and on for a few days so I'm taking her to the vets tomorrow morning.

I bet her stomach is full of pebbles and plastic from plant pots. She's such a dickhead.

Both. Although the human has been crying at my renewed long shifts which is heartbreaking. The dog I just feel bad for with less company than usual.

She had an anti sickness injection and some pills for something.

I've fed her about 6 or 7 small meals today and no sicking.

She is still full of beans. In both activity and smell.

She is also current begging for the lagavulin I'm currently drinking.
    She's a weird dog.

The wife thought biscuit had started a catastrophic first season / period this avo.

Until she discovered a well-chewed bottle of red food colouring in the corner of the kitchen.

:D how old is Biscuit now? We're anticipating Cara's any day but she's much smaller.

Other mammals have periods? I’ve no idea why but always thought it was just a human thing. Actually I don’t believe this. I’d of heard about this before being 41.

They have a season. They're fertile for about 3 weeks, give or take, but don't bleed that whole time afaik.

All female placental mammals have menstrual cycles. They don't all bleed though.

Do dogs menstruate? How do you... manage that?

So glad I got a male dog!

Have you not seen their eggs?

    (Best left unfried, mind.)

Edit: yeah. Tbf, were just watching out for swollen vulva and discharge, yay, before locking her in for 3 weeks. Hmmm.

    Locked in dog.

    That’ll go down well.

I appreciate being able to give her belly rubs without feeling slightly tarnished.

Female dogs are so much tidier underneath!

My sister is picking up a cockadoodledor, or some such, tomorrow morning.

    I think she’s a bit daunted.

    She’s calling it Rose.

    Which. Idk.

Seems to ignore the realities of dogs. “Rose, stop eating your vomit.” “Rose, stop eating your poo.” Etc.

Iirc it’s our much-loved grandmother’s middle name, which is just begging for even more fox poo scented corruption of much loved memories.

Edit: my wife has forbidden me from keeping all <10 puppies, and there are already enough OTHER Labradors in the world for other people wanting Labradors.

Can I recommend a blow up comfy collar instead of a cone of shame then.

Obviously it's hilarious when they misjudge the width of the doorway and bounce off it but the pitiful whining meant that I slept with her downstairs because I'm a softy.

I bought her a comfy blow up collar and she seemed much happier with it.

Cassie would have had such beautiful pups but there's no way I could give them away.

I wonder if she's have like being a Mum though. She has a baby (teddy) which she carries around and is really gentle with. Every other toy gets destroyed.

Smaller dogs twice a year, bigger breeds maybe once. They're all different. Will get mine spayed when she's a bit older.

Lucy had a season around every 4-5 months so it really does vary. She wasn’t spayed when we got her at 11 months and it took a while to get her done. We briefly considered having one litter as her breed were on the endangered list at the time but the vet thought she had a heart murmur so we didn’t want to risk it.

She was very very grumpy when she was in season and we suspect that’s why she snarled at the child in her previous family and they didn’t really tell us the whole story. So make sure kids are extra kind and gentle with them.

This is her after her op. [IMG]

We are getting Twiglet spayed on Wednesday. Following everyone advising me that it is far better to do it before the first season

We weren’t really “planning” on it.

I rang up our vet to book her in, and they refused to whip out her bits until three months after her first season.
