The Division 3 (league one) thread - 06-07

Now, here was I thinking that the O' would get a pasting against millwall (whilst playing good football), though, yet again gary alexander proves me wrong. I refuse to make predictions on orient this season, must be tougher on the bookies. I like the work ethic and the team spirit martin ling has created with the O's. Just like him I'm quietly confident.

We (MFC) played pony last night, but with 10 players brought in over the summer I hardly recognise the squad, it's gonna take a little to gel. Still I thought we were in fine voice.

On the topic of Oldham - has Rosa left the building?
No,rosa's boss has moved into her office, severely curtailing the opportunities to skive on here.
on the subject of ronnie moore,i still think the whole 'sacking' was seriously suspect. Seems a bit convenient that we sacked him the day after the tranmere vacancy came up,and the reason given was possibly the silliest i've ever heard-"season tickets sales are slow cos the fans don't like him"? Yeah, taking us from just avoiding relegation to just missing out on the play-offs was never gonna go down well, was it.I'm sure that's the reason you're not shifting season tickets, rather than the extortionate prices.

Still, there's plenty of people who think Sheridan should have been appointed manager instead of Moore in the first place, and i'm sure the bad start's just a blip (we never win at tranmere anyway,we had no chance under the circumstances). And on the plus side Will Haining's back to fitness for the first time in about 2 years (what the hell has Michelle Marsh been doing to him?)

btw belboid-did you see the story in the echo last night about John Aldridge on some Pop Idol-type programme?

oh aye - he's in the last four! but its all for a jolly good cause.

Should be off to my first game of the season tomorrow - away to Donny, think we should do okay there.

Things going well for Forest so far - two games, two wins. However, given my experiences over the years supporting this shower, I'm waiting for the wheels to come off.....:(

Matt

Gah.. Stuff not going good at all. Fans not happy, big investments not materialised thus far and rubbish at attacking, defence not too bad. Oh well. Same old shit, different season.

It was more fun when we were rubbish at defending and good at attacking. :(

Seen as the basement league one has kicked of, those of us in a more elevated location should start to muster our thoughts and predictions for the new season.

Blackpool - well, we had a nice cash boost and have brought some good players in by the look of it including Adie Forbes, Rhys Evans, Marcus Bean and Chris Barker. Looks like we might be bringing in Wes Hoolahan from Livingston as well. Should be strong at the back, solid in midfield but still missing something up front and maybe a creative spark in the middle of the park.

Am fairly optimistic we can get top half, maybe even 8/9th.

So, who else is about?

Friday 24th of November How d'ya fancy being our guest of honour at tranmere tangy? Players lounge an all that;)

Lost to Forest - 1-0 - own goal by Doig.

Jason Crowe is a fucking muppet of a right back.

We play like that for the rest of the season and we're fucked :D

You'll be reet - we lost 2-0 to Forest at home and I don't think we're doomed yet!. They have so much more resources than anyone else, I'm ignoring our result against them.

Just noticed this thread!

Lost our first game to Forest. We played well though and better than Forest I thought. Their keeper made 3 terrific saves.
Missed Tuesdays win over Bristol City due to a family commitment:mad: but apparently we played well.
We were 2-0 down yestarday inside 13 minutes against Gillingham but came back to win 4-2, happy days! We were excellent 2nd half.
Colin Todd seems to have loosened his defensive shackles! We're playing with 2 pacey wingers. I can see us hammering some teams this season but also letting in a few goals ourselves! With luck we could be top 6.
I'm surprised Forest have 9 points. They didn't look all that against the mighty bantams!

BTW Tangerine, I'm coming to Blackpool for the match on 28th October and I'll be staying over. Fancy meeting up for a beer? We could talk about 1996!:D

Crewe next weekend. Where's good for a beer?

Nowhere!

I'll definately be up for a beer providing I'm in town - Give us a shout before the game, my memory is sieve-like - What happened in 96???????

Looking good so far, three out of three....To be honest I think we've got our defence and excellent new keeper Smith to thank for our form so far. We were pretty shaky against Bradford but managed to hold out, Blackpool was a significant improvement, and I think when Northampton went down to 10 men we were always going to come out on top. I'm gutted Tyson is out for a good few months, the run he made which led to his injury against Bradford showed how useful he could have been, but it looks like we might be on the look out for another striker (unless Dobie returns to full fitness soon and has retained some of his pace).

David Pleat is our new 'Football Consultant', which basically seems to be a scout of sorts. The chairman and Pleat himself have talked about the importance of having lots of contacts within the game at the club and I guess it won't hurt to have him on board - he's been linked with a job at the City Ground for ages anyway, so it's not exactly a surprise. It's just a shame we're not in the position to sign any of the players he commentates on for ITV, but hey!

*patiently awaiting inevitable Forest balls-up...*

Any thoughts on how the mighty tangerine Wizards played? or any comment on the rumour linking us with Dobie or Johnson?

Couldn't make it to blackpool myself but spoke to a mate who made the trip, he said Forest did enough to be comfortable winners but you lot didn't make it easy. Said you had a lot of the ball and quite a bit a pressure but didn't have that many shots on goal - sounded to me like how we played for large parts of last season. On that evidence, an improvement up front could mean an occasional good run and a possible top half finish. Didn't seem to be as much trouble after the game as well compared to last season so at least thats something.

I've heard rumours about Johnson being linked with you (along with a few other clubs, including championship clubs who obviously haven't realised that Johnno is only division 3 standard now), and whilst I'll say that I wouldn't be too gutted to see him leave because of his huge wages, he has always produced the goods on the occasions where he's been out on loan so it wouldn't surprise me if he succeeds at another club. He is a shadow of the player he was in 2002-2003, but is a form player and a new challenge could be just what he's looking for.

I think Dobie will probably be given a chance when he returns to fitness, but I'm only basing that on how Colin has given Harris a few games when it looked like his Forest career was over. Add to the fact that Tyson is out for half the season already, I can only really see Johnno and Harris (eventually) being sold, with the possibility of another striker being brought into the club, possibly on loan.

Out of interest, how are the fans taking to the new Latvian owners?

You know your after Agogo?

The new Latvian owner isn't actually the owner! - the club is still very much in the hands of the Oystons, with Belakon getting the role of 'club-president' and control over the playing side only (aparantly) in return for an alleged investment of 4.5 million. He's only got 20% of the shares and tohse he has got are newly created ones.
A few fans seem to think he's a smokescreen designed to placate the anti-Oyston brigade. We havn't exactly splashed his cash arround so far, but then again - we do seem to be bidding for players, just keep getting turned down.

yeah I read about Agogo, would be quite pleased if we sign him but to be honest we've got loads of strikers at the club, which is why I'd have preferred if we got some sort of loan deal with a striker from the Championship. While I'm hoping he'll be a success, we've got a habit of signing crap players and then getting rid when its become increasingly obvious how shit they are (Eugene Dadi as the most recent example, as I'm sure belboid would agree).

If the transfer goes through I'd imagine it'll be followed by the swift departure of another striker from the NFFC gravy train.

Hmm. I think one of the strongest things Calderwood has done so far is NOT buy players like mad.

We are apparantly in for Ben Burgess of Hull and Danny Carlton of Morcambe, which would be very pleasing indeed as we'd have a player who wanted to play and a striker above 5ft 11.

carry on dreaming

Don't you just love it, the O's win again. Although away games is where things might prove difficult, but at least the confidence is there to take to those games.

From the wrong thread.
