The Devil wears Prada

You mean Rachel getting married, I saw a trailer for it a while back looked quite interesting. I'll have to remind myself to watch it at some point.

Yep.

I saw it last week. I have a feeling it will be in my top five films of the year at the end of the year.

Suspected as much. Most of these films which should be about not being size 10 and still getting the job and the boy are always about tarting yourself up so you look more beautiful than the girls that were slagging you off for being ugly...

Tbf, whilst that is all true in the film, it happens in the context of a very shallow industry which she then rejects.

Tbh I wasn't that impressed but the message isn't quite as bad as all that.

Explosions, however, are the engines of awesomeness.

But less likely to lead to world peace one day.

Though tbh, it's a tough call which is worse overall in a societal way - celebrating war type machismo or celebrating vanity and the idea that you need to be beautiful to succeed.

I'm not sure it is such a tough call. Trash books for men are like trash films for men. They portray strong virile males destroying evil/saving the world/going on rampage against baddies to save his daughter etc. All are essentially empowered roles, if somewhat narrow. Female trash fiction shows empowerment through what? conformity to male approval. The love of the Hero. The hero rarely earns that love, rather the female character conforms and her reward is the generic prince charming.

Maybe saving the world/destroying evil is just conformity to female approval. Where does that leave us?

nah, female approval is just one of the rewards accorded to the Hero. Power and Wealth are the other main ones.

Whereas the female character obtains wealth, and limited power through Prince Charming and solely through him.

He only wants the power and wealth to impress the laydees though.

What's the point of the power if not to get the laydees, then?

Some people fucking love power. Just for it's own sake. They are walking phalli tbh, but they do exist. To them the ladeez and deep pile carpet and the expensive cognac are naught but trimmings on the power.

How do you know?

I've drank with such. Like a fish out of water at an Ishares thing I helped to set up as a logistics worker, at an ex's dads business dinner, with my stepdads peers. Be-suited guys with wives and mistresses. The mentality is easy to see if you encounter the type in social situations

Whereas women just want the love of a good man. Ergo, women are better than men. If men just wanted the love of a good woman the world would be a better place.

Except cinematically. Films would be duller.

This doesn't explain how you knew they wanted the power for its own sake, though.

All they spoke and cared about was who had what deal and what position. Really, when someone is materially satisfied and yet still seeks a more dominant position, what do they seek really?
