The Devil wears Prada

I thought it was enjoyable enough, nothing special. The book was better.

Yeah, I agree - I did like the film (it's okay for a girly night in, but only if you're feeling *really* confident and good about yourself, so you don't feel like utter crap afterwards) but the book was much funnier.

I must admit, I don't really like Meryl Streep in the role. I always read it as being Helen Mirren - because Miranda in the book is British and for some reason I just had her voice in my head when I was reading. Meh.

This was on TV last night.

What a waste of 2 hours

This idot girl takes 2 hours to realise that her job is shallow as fuck and her boss is a bitch.

What a pointless, crap, film.

Film was lame, but great outfits and I really like Meryl Streep's hairstyle - I want my hair to be like that when I've gone grey :)

I got bored of it throughout though, but watched the whole thing.

The main character was clearly fashion, and i didn't really like any of the other characters (apart from the boyfriend, who seemed to have some integrity, but even that was cliched)

I found that bits just didn't make that much sense, like her reaction to Nigel telling her to get a grip and that she wasn't REALLY 'trying hard' was "oh i know... I'll have a makeover!! lolz" rather than looking at her slack attitude to the job and re-assessing what the job ACTUALLY required from her.

And why did the boyfriend decide they should get back together at the end just because she'd quit? He didn't even know why she'd left or what. And surely he would want to talk more about why she was so ready to fuck him off because of her dedication to a job that she wasn't even bothered about... err... yeh.

stuff.

It did wind me up a bit but I enjoyed it :D

I wondered if anyone would bump this thread

I watched it cos it was on telly and I was killing time before Generation Kill. Dire.

Ended up going for an extended brushing and flossing session for the last 20 minutes, it was THAT interesting

:D

i walked into the front room last night to find both fogbat and my housemate, each on separate sofas, seeming to avidly enjoy this. with matching blue fluffy blankets :D

filled me with cackle proper, it did :)

i watched it last night, intent on hating it, but i find it mildly enjoyable. completely predictable and full of shit, but still enjoyable. anne hathaway looks a bit like a mouse, i think.

Painfully obvious storyline, but Meryl Streep was superb (everyone here seems to be either think she was brilliant or shit, no in-betweens).
Great study in a totally domineering character who makes people toady to her, with seldom even a withering glance, let alone raising her voice.

Also, the scene in the car, I would have been like ACE MATE, LET'S GO AND GET FUCKED TO CELEBRATE HOW ACE WE ARE. CAN I LICK YOUR ANUS? not "errrr i couldn't have done that whine whine whine.

pfft.

And why did she suddenly think that that bloke she shagged was a twat? Why would she expect him to have some kind of loyalty to her boss?!!!

Watched this last night too, as other half is away, its the only chance I'd get - thought it was pretty cheesy. Thought that Anne Hathaway looked daft in some of the outfits - why do all these fashion films assume that the heroine has to wear giant net underskirts and six inch heels to look trendy, hmm? Liked Meryl Streep. It reminded me that I actually got shitcanned from my last FT job in the fashion trade because I refused to suck up to a woman who had the same vile, nasty behaviour.

all this

have quite wanted to see it for a while but not pay for the privilege and it fulfilled my sunday night switch my brain off requirement nicely :)

I thought her boyfriend was a total dick, judgmental, jealous, snide.

I thought the blond guy was also a dick.

Meryl Streep was wicked in the role, wonderfully understated.

Anne Hathaway is very watchable.

I think she looks like a deer. A doe eyed deer.

I really like the film, it's much funnier than loads of other films of that ilk.

I'm ashamed to say I watched this last night too. Truly an awful film. It's pretty much just Ugly Betty but dragged out to 2 hours and not as good.
Anyone who enjoys this should be regarded with the utmost suspicion.

It's not awful. It does what it intends to do. It's funny, fluffy and has a glaringly obvious moral issue. But it does it well.

Actually, there was one good line, delivered by the orange-peeler...something along the lines of the doe eyed deer moving glacially and her being thrilled

yeah, she was good. i couldn't remember what else i'd seen her in, so i checked on IMDB and the answer is... nothing that i remember.

I thought it was saying that women can't have good jobs and be nice people too but perhaps that is a feminist reading too far :D
