The Descent

Lets put it in context:

Asian girl drags them all into unknown cave
Kills her mate
All of her other friends are dead
Possible affair with her now dead husband

I'd be pretty pissed off would you not?

Yeah but the dragging into cave and killing my mate would be enough tbh.

I loved it too.
Really full on building of terror through out.
I felt a bit drained after watching it, it was that full on.

The claustrophobia got me far more than the "monsters", who were pretty lame. I've never been potholing and after seeing that I'm even less inclined now.

I can't believe these opinions about it being too "hollywood", anyone who reckons that can't have seen the boring, clueless shite that Hollywood labels as horror these days.

The book The Descent by Jeff Long is a great read, set in an underground world of caves with plenty of horror twists, although that's where the similarity ends. It brings some good concepts about theology and the origins of man, evolution, language and life in general into it. It's one of my try and read once a year books.

He's also written The Descent two, Deeper, which follows up on number one but adds in the idea of underground being a resource under our feet, which despite the danger and fear, becomes a source of wealth for the pioneering.
