It was all about the hometown for me. The Vietnam stuff did seem a little too distracting when it was really just a mechanism for informing the main themes of things like community, friendship and change. I liked hometown portrayal very much.

Key time for that society, much changed.
 
It was on again tonight, on ITV. I switched over to it when they are prisoners of the Vietcong and being forced to play Russian roulette. A bit too grisly for me at the moment and I could not face the rest of it.

I do like Christopher Walken in it especially though.
 
The opening steel mill scenes are so beautifully shot they're worthy of Terence Malick. But after that, when the characters start speaking and they go on and on and on...sheesh. Maybe if you halved the length and cut 90% of the dialogue maybe it could make a more watchable Malick-like film.
