Thing with Carrey is that he's actually v.good at serious roles (Truman Show is possibly my all time favourite film, and Eternal Sunshine was also pretty good) but when he tries to be funny, he's a bit rubbish...

Did anyone think Ledger was in any way scary before TDK?
Exactly the point I was trying, and failing, to make (in a post that never made it). After Ledger I don't trust any "Actor X could never be Character Y".

Well, maybe not quite any, but I'm certainly not as certain as I once was.

Hmm, maybe this post shouldn't have made it either :hmm:

Exactly (and Truman is one of my all time faves too, I love Eternal Sunshine also).

I can't see how the Riddler would work. One way would have been a psycopathic fuck who set up devious problems for the people of Gotham to resolve, but the Joker spent all last film doing that.

The Penguin would work if he was just a well-dressed gangster, especially if the actual Penguin nickname was hardly used, like for Two-Face.

Ah great, Depp gets to relive his kooky Willy Scissorhands Jack the Wonka personna all over again. There's a risk he may telephone the performance in.

Hoffman would be better mind

Real batman fans unite.

Others have made that connection too but is Guy Pearce Heath Ledger scary? He does intelligent well but scary?

Yup i reckon he could pull it off, as much as i love depp i really would prefer it if he stayed well out of the next one, he really could fuck it up if you know what i mean.

I like them choices.

As per tarranau, I don't fancy Depp for that at all. I mean, I rate him and all that, but Nolan's films have succeeded so far by getting up-and-comings/fresh faces in the 'big' roles (while having lots of big names in support).

I don't know much about Hoffman, that said. Seems more like a nolan actor...

Up and comers like Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and Christian Bale? :D

I meant in the main roles (which alfred and fox aren't).

And Bale, when Begins came out, while he was quite well known, was definitely not a Pitt/Depp/Clooney type 'big name'.

I do like Depp but I reckon Nolan wouldn't choose him anyway.

If I were a betting man, it will be pearce as per my previous suggestion

If its Nolan (please god please god) i doubt it will be Depp.

Nolan is distancing himself away from comendy camp as far as he possibly can.

Depp is now one of the kings of comedy camp after Charlie and the Chocolate factory and Pirates of the Carrabean

Yeah, I just want to see a trilogy actually have a good third part (Viz: Back to the Future 3, Return of the Jedi, Godfather 3, X Men 3). Why do so many trilogies have a quality 2nd one, and then a shite 3rd film?

No doubt now WB will get fucking Brett Ratner to do the 3rd film and it will be toss

I am sure i read that aaron eckheart (sp?!) said that he wont be playing two face again??????? think i read that on the bbc, so now hugely confused. Basically it looks like they are going to let the bloggers etc get themselves worked up into a sweaty frenzy again bastards:D
