Lol you're welcome. It was a bit of an odd scene to start the film with.

I dunno, I guess this one was just *so* dark that I liked having a little "lightness" in Batman Begins - and that's saying something, cause BB was pretty dark too :P. There also wasn't enough Batman time in The Dark Knight...which is odd, because it's supposed to be a Batman film, but there ya go. I look forward to the next installment!!!

oh...i thought Batman became The Dark Knight at the end of the film.
cos he took Harvey Dent's place remember? took the fall. he was the hero that crashed down from grace.

(all through the film Dent was seen and quoted as the 'White Knight of Gotham.' and to save his honor, and the people's morale, Batman took the fall of Harvey Dent and became a criminal).

Its like he is trying to crack pavements with it. Whats that all about?
He was using a voice modulator so people wouldn't recognise his voice, eg Jim Gordon.
Makes perfect sense. Crap idea.

Batman's voice should sound like gravel, cause that's part of the character, not cause he uses a bit of tech. But there were so many thing wrong with the film. Gotham's meant to look like it was designed "by Masons on opium and excscerbated by architects on absinthe", not bloody Chcago. And the man was brawling like the Midnighter.

Watched this yesterday, twas most entertaining, tho a little long.

The Joker was awesome, really utterly bonkers. Batman's voice was really annoying after about 5 minutes tho.

Remaining rogues gallery

The Penguin
Riddler
Mr Freeze
Cat Woman
Posion Ivy
Clay Face
Bane
Scarface
Probably a few others too crap for films. Someone said Rachel might come back as a new villian but I doubt that.

Johnny Depp as the Riddler and Phillip Seymour Hoffman as Penguin seems to be a rumour floating around at the moment. :hmm:

I thought Depp was likely to play the Joker?

I am quite glad he didnt to be honest, i think that there is a presumption that all slightly offkey characters should go to Depp but there must be new talent* out there capable of it as well, saying that i think he could pull off being the riddler though.

* i am still thinking who though:D

Wha??? Sorry, don't quite get your point...

well mr geeky bird, throughout the whole film they kept going "Harvey Dent, our shining knight."
Then at the end Harvey killed people and Batman took the rap.
And the film was called The Dark Knight.

Geddit?

Phillip Seymour Hoffman would make a good penguin I reckon, although Danny DeVito's interpretation will be tough to beat...

 Well, yes I did get that point actually. What I didn't get was why CharlieAddict was saying that in regard to my post.

And it's "Miss" actually, not Mr :hmm:.

I'm not that against the idea of Depp playing the Joker, rather him than Jack Nicholson any day of the week!

Yeah, Depp should definitely take over the role from Ledger. He looks pretty similar (and the makeup would cover over the differences), he's a chameleonic performer who could mimic Ledger's performance while putting his own spin on it, and he's just about the only actor I can think of who has enough goodwill stored up in credit to step into a dead man's shoes.

I doubt it'll happen, though.

Christian Slater'd be good in a basically the same as Jack Nicholson way. If I ever make a film, I'm giving him the lead role to revive his career.

Well, the part was apparently close to going to this relatively unknown Australian actor Lachy Hulme, but he was beaten to the punch by Ledger.

It wouldn't surprise me if they went back to him if they decide to recast the role.

I wonder if there's enough leftover footage of Ledger knocking around that they could have a cameo in the next film - just a shot of him through the window of one of the cell doors in Arkham, or something.

Lachy Hulme was really good as Sparks in the Matrix sequels and the Enter the Matrix game. I think he might make a good Joker stand-in/taker-overer (whatever) from Heath Ledger. Heath Ledger's performance was really really good as the Joker, and that's something that you can't really copy, but in terms of looks, he sort of melded into the character so much that you couldn't even tell it was him, which makes it a bit easier to cast someone to take over the role.

Yeah, as long as you get someone with roughly the same facial structure, you're sorted (Depp! Depp!). And cast Crispin Glover as a creepy-ass John Doe-style Riddler.

I dunno...I don't think Johnny Depp is the right actor to play the Joker. Someone suggested Casey Affleck as The Riddler; that I could see. I think having the Riddler next would be quite interesting.

Yeah, Affleck would be good (though it's lazy casting in a way, "ooh, he played a creepy stalker in The Assassination of Jesse James, he'd be good..."). I think of the remaining Batman villains, a stalker/serial killer Riddler is about the only one you could do convincingly in Nolan's universe. The film would (of necessity) end up being a bit more small-scale than The Dark Knight, though that might not be a bad thing.

I'd heard the original plan was to have the Joker incarcerated in Arkham, playing Hannibal Lecter-style mind games with Gordon and Batman; that would fit in pretty well with a serial killer storyline. Of course, that would rely on them recasting the Joker now...

Also, if he kept constantly medicated there would be a decent enough explanation for changes in his speech pattern, body language, etc. It could be a good use of the character, rather like Lecter in Red Dragon/Manhunter. I would prefer that to a plot involving him escaping and wreaking further havoc - that works in a long-running comic but not for a series of films that'll probably last another one or two episodes at the most.

Ooh, jinx.

Is anybody going to have a stab at analysing the sub-plot?

I haven't seen it yet but I've read some interesting interpretations.
