Just saw it this afternoon, absolutely loved it despite some flaws. So very impressed with Ledger's performance.

Emphatically not crap!

Just got back from the cinema and i have to say i enjoyed it immensely.........

Heath Ledger was brilliant and i found it quite sad to see what a good film actor he would have become !

I thought it was fucking brilliant! Superhero films are usually so shit. Get the powers, save the girl, save the world, set up the sequal, yawn. I love the way this one had the feel of a really good thriller and not just a popcorn comic thing. Ledger's Joker surpassed all the hype, loved it. 'I will make this pencil disappear!'

I think I need to see the first one again but would anyone mind giving me a brief explanation of what was going on with the scarecrow and that? It went over my head and wasn't he tied up with the copycat batmen by the end of the scene?

The scarecrow guy (Cillian Murphy out of 28 days later and that) was one of the baddies in Batman Begins. His trick is spraying hallucinogenic stuff in people's faces, and the scary mask is to make his victims freak out once they start tripping. As for what he was doing in this film, I'm totally at a loss. Not the only bit that seemed to be chucked in rather carelessly tbh...

He's good but don't you think he modeled himself, or the Joker, on Jack Nicholson in the Shining? Some reason he reminded me of him in that film.

Yes, i can see what you're getting at but all the same good !

In fact the same as happened with Jack in the other version.....he completely blew batman off the screen !

at the end of BB , the scarecrow escaped ( on horseback iirc ) so i think having him in it at the beginning was just to give a connection to the first film and to show he has now been caught , therefore tying up that loose end :)

i quite liked the way they did that tbh

** just re-checked the last scarecrow screen , he is tied up with about 5 fake batmen probably waiting to be picked up by the cops ( no doubt the batmen were also going in the click cos they were using guns )**

i t6hink it was the fake batmen trying to help him but being ' well intentioned idiots' ( nice description !! ) it sorta back fired on them. I think the whole point of that ( sorry if im stating the obvious ) was that bats was inspiring hope in a much darker way than harvey inspired hope :)

Sorry, I meant why were the batmen helping scarecrow? That's what seemed to be going on to me. Think I need to watch this again though, I've been thinking about it on and off since Sunday.

ah i get ya , sorry just re-read your post s-l-o-w-l-y.......

He may have been helping them just because he could have dealt with them with the gas far more effectively after they all sorted out the gangsters... then again didnt he spray one of the fake bats too ?

i can see where the confusion comes from

Yeah, sort of. My recollection is a bit hazy though because that was in the first 10 mins or so of an action packed rollercoaster full throttle high velocity action packed, no, I said action packed already, didn't I? Romp of a film.

No, Scarecrow was talking to the gangsters in the beginning because they'd bought his trippy drug from him and they weren't getting any "repeat customers" and were mad about it, hence Scarecrow's line: "I said my drug would take you places, I never said they'd be places you wanted to go..." (or whatever it was, can't remember exactly).

Loved it! And I can't wait to go see it again - my friend saw it at the iMax and never told me he was going  despite the fact that he knows I love Batman...so I would like to see it there. But anyway!

Not as good as Batman Begins in my opinion, but it was great not crap.

Aaaaaaaaaaaah, cheers.

Erm.....................er..................sorry, but I still don't understand why he was with the other batmen though.....I'm beyond embarassed smiley embarrased at my lameness :(

How come you prefereed number 1 to this one, penguino?

I don't think he was with the other batmen - they had turned up to take down all in attendance, i.e. the Russian and the Scarecrow, but then the real Batman turned up and caught the Scarecrow, but also caught the other batmen as, as has been said, they were dangerous vigilantes who were using guns, no training, etc, etc. The Scarecrow and the other batmen just happened to be detained at the same time, they weren't working together.

I thought it was great too. Heath Ledger did really well as the Joker. Maybe not worthy of an Oscar, but he did make the Joker a more menacing character than portrayed by Jack Nicholson.

"Watch me make this pencil disappear"

My fave bit too :)

I never thought he would be able to top Nicholson but I agree that he gave it some extra dimensions. Perhaps his performance NEEDED Nicholson's to go before it but, I dunno, having seen him be great in this and Brokeback I now firmly think he was a great actor in the making if not already there.

i loved it, Ledger was good in it, although to be honest he has always been good imho and yeah it did make feel a bit sad. I am glad he didnt make the joker funny, he is not meant to be he is meant to be mad as a badger. And i loved the pencil trick fucking brilliant.

I have only two complaints

1) music too bloody loud in places and being a bit deaf couldnt hear a word of what was being said and it was too fast paced to lip read.
2) another vote for "Lamest voice ever" for Bales Batman voice, wtf!?!

Other than i loved it, i really really hope we get some arkham action in the next one. :D

saw this last night and quite liked it. Heath Ledger was very good imo, but i'd go with the 'crappest batman voice ever' vote :D

Heh I never had any doubt but then I thought Nicholson's Joker was shite!

Yes most definitely.

Jack Nicholson himself told him to 'be careful' in the way he was approaching and moulding his (Ledger's) role because of the mental stress & mind fuck he was setting himself up for.

After the news broke that Ledger had died from an overdose, all jack Nicholson ever said on the subject was "I told him so."

Aaaaaaaaaaaah, cheers.

Lol you're welcome. It was a bit of an odd scene to start the film with.

I dunno, I guess this one was just *so* dark that I liked having a little "lightness" in Batman Begins - and that's saying something, cause BB was pretty dark too :P. There also wasn't enough Batman time in The Dark Knight...which is odd, because it's supposed to be a Batman film, but there ya go. I look forward to the next installment!!!
