The Cycling Links Thread

Well that was a friggin' rip-roaring success... arseholes to everything you big poopy dunderheads. :D

Some of the best mountain biking to be had in the world is in northern thailand.

Highly recommended, if a little far for most...!

Don't have any good links at all but was hoping some of you could post up the urls of any reliable online bike suppliers. I'm working nights for the next few weeks and I just got my first credit card so I'm going to get myself some new kit online and I'm a bit worried.

Well you did kind of clean up with the Sheldon Brown and Park tool links - that along with the cycling plus BB pretty much encompases everything a cyclist would ever need. :)

I'll post a few of my more obscure (and mildly relevant) links later.

Technical links:-

I have loads of links of the best places to buy bike stuff online (custom built titanium frame for $250?) but don't want to spam so PM me if you want a list.

I'll PM you tommorrow if you still haven't put it up but I don't see how an experienced cyclist recommending a couple of reliable online suppliers could be construed as spam in any way whatsoever. Spam is unwanted advertising surely?

Edit: thanks a lot for the sizing link, I'm looking for a new frame at the moment. I'm 6'7" and it's a nightmare. I'm currently riding a 22" frame with an extra long seatpost which isn't ideal.

ok then - mods feel free to delete if this is too much advertising...

Online road bike parts and complete bikes:-

http://www.parker-international.co.uk/

http://www.probikekit.com/

http://www.spacycles.co.uk/

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ - not usually any cheaper than your LBS but free delivery makes them handy.

and about those custom made titanium frames...

http://www.xacd.com.cn/ - chinese so you have to buy in dollars, but the savings are huge - UK 'builders' setavento and Omega both source their frames from here but slap a few hundred on for themselves...allegedly. A mate has a race frame of theirs, weldings not the prettiest but its light and rides well...he's well chuffed.

and anyone who want to have a go at designing their own custome built frame theres a bike CAD program here (you may need to get a Java virtual machine plugin for Mozilla/IE)

I contacted xacd today and their current price for TI frames is $462 with a $135 dollar shipping fee, but this still works out at about £300-£350 which is pretty good. Shipping for 2 frames is only £10 more.
www.chainreactioncycles.com are another good online store - more mountain bikey than roady, but they're dead quick and cheap.

Thanks a lot for that Sigmund. I'm working nights for the next few week and desperately need new kit. No time to get to my LBS so I'll be checking those out.
