I never use the outside bars as they do not do the ST discount, but if they are charging £5.50 for a lager, then i agree thats expensive and id recommend always going into the clubhouse and get an Estrella for £4.50.
I was very vocal on here with criticism when i saw the price hike on the bar compared to last season (where you could get a lager, forget the name of it, for £3.50 a pint), but was pacified when the very good discount for ST holders was rolled out. I am very aware not everyone has one, but i can see the point- make a bit of money where you can from the part time moneyed 'hipsters' who come to games to talk to their friend Sebastian about their next skiing trip, how hilariously drunk they got in 'John the Unicorn' in Peckham last night, and couldnt give a shit about the actual football, yet those 'proper' Dulwich Hamlet fans can still get a cheap pint at their non league club, as they should. I guess you're stuck in no mans land in that respect.
Personally I think everyone should pay the same amount for drinks whether they're a season ticket holder or not. I'm a lifelong fan but live in Oxford so I usually only make about 15 games a season which are a mix of home and away fixtures so having a season ticket doesn't work for me. I'm every bit as passionate a fan as anyone else at the club so why should I and others like me be penalised at the bar for not having a season ticket? My feeling is that season ticket holders get subsidised entrance to the games and that's what a season ticket is for! Just make all the drinks a sensible price for everyone so that everyone receives some benefit. Surely that's what a community club is all about isn't it? Making things better for everyone instead of a chosen few!
And on that point of community, I think it's very easy to lose focus and slip into an 'entitlement' mindset. I think this has happened to some extent due to the rapid growth of the club and increase in crowd numbers - the post about kids playing football in the ground being a case in point. It's really important to remember that we got here by being a welcoming, inclusive, friendly community; if that focus changes the crowd numbers and growth can easily go the other way.
