The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

That is exactly my impression as well.

Slumdog Millionaire doesn't appeal for the same reason.

slumdog millionaire is a good film though-excellent locations and an engaging story told simply and well.

It's being eulogized as the best film evar but it isn't. It is however, a good bit of film

bollocks. that'll teach me to be a smartarse :o

I didn't know Swinton was in it.

I apologise profusely for being a twat :)

That's a relief - I genuinely thought my faculties had failed me and I was completely missing the cut of a pithy-yet-subtle retort.

:D

It was ok, but it really should have been cut to a reasonable lenght. There were too many slightly over sentimental long scenes that didn't help the film's narative.

I haven't cried at a film in ages, but I did tonight.

It was phenomenal, and should win ever Oscar it'll be up for. Pitt is amazing, Blanchett is amazing, the effects and make-up, especially for the young but old Benjamin at the beginning of the film, are out of this world.

Eric Roth wrote it, and there is a touch of Forrest Gump about it, but in a brilliant way

Anone else seen it yet?

Saw this afternoon, excellent film!!

There was a couple of moments that I thought it was a little long but it felt like reading a good book rather than watching a film to me so it kinda worked. The acting was great, the effects fantastic and the story touching.

it's nearly 3 hours innit:eek::D
however, I enjoyed it so much it did'nt seem like that long:cool:

each to their own. By the end of it it just felt like someone speaking so slowly that you feel like you've got enough time to make a cup of tea before they finish their sentance.

Watched this last night, and thought it was okay. For a story that's supposed to be moving and thought provoking, it was pretty naff, but for a 'switch off brain and watch' movie it was (almost) enjoyable. The reason I say 'almost' is threefold. First, the premise annoyed me. It was ridiculous and the work arounds that they had to do detracted from the story. Second, it was too fucking long and I ended up not caring. Films can be as long as they want if they remain engaging, but this could've had a good 40 minutes edited out and it'd take nothing from the film. Thirdly, Pitt and Blanchett have been said to have given the performance of their livs. They were mediocre at best. This film is not even worthy of an oscar recommendation.

Workmate saw it at the weekend, said it was worse than forrest Gump if that was possible, could'nt understand how it garnered 13 Oscar Noms:eek:

I would point out to anyone that hasnt seen it but read all off this thread dont bother as you will not enjoy it.
I went to watch it last night and thought it was brilliant. There are people moaning on this thread about it being too sentimental and unbelievable ffs its about someone who is born old and gets younger, what exactly was it people were looking for when they decided to go and watch this film?

Heh I was thinking that...

I've just been to see this and i thought it was absoulte PANTS. As did pretty much every other person in the audience. Most people were either figeting b'cos it was sooo bloody long and never ending, or laughing hysterically at the utter riddiculous crapness of it.

Did anyone else feel atall creeped out by it? There was just something so very wrong about old man Benjamin under the kitchen table with little girl Daisy. And old woman Daisy kissing little kid Benjamin and then holding baby Benjamin in her arms blabbering on about how Benjamin baby looked at her, and in that moment, he knew....

I've just listened to the Kermode review on 5live. It made me laugh a lot, and I wouldn't want to ruin that enjoyment by actually watching the fucking film :)

Which means it will get the Oscar for best picture. I've seen trailers for it and I have to say, it doesn't interest me: it's typical Hollywood fare.

And they mentioned the Mork and Mindy thing! I liked his impression of Cate Blanchett prancing across the road into a car.

Not huge on Hollywood but, reading this, I'm wondering if notions of Oscar-bait and being an enjoyable film have to be mutually exclusive.
