They're pretty embarrasing these days and have been for quite a few years. But in their day, they were great.

Pretty much the worst band I have ever seen live.

I beg to differ on that - I've seen them a couple of times and they were never bad. The first time I saw them they blew me away - Bristol Locarno (shithole) 1978, supporting Generation X (who were unmitigated CRAPaltho I did get to snog Bob Andrews :D )

I love The Cure. In fact I also used to love Robert Smith, but I don't tell many people :o .

Supporting Souxie in Aberdeen - Believe me, I loved in a forest & truly wanted to like them but they were just so off-key & unable to keep time with each other. Just totally, utterly painful to watch & hear.

Then, the Banshees came out on stage with Robert Smith & the other guy in the band & we bloody got it all over again!

Both times I've seen the Banshees they were ace too! But that was before the divine Robert - it was Steve Severin and John McKay then.

I LOVE their early stuff like Boys Don't Cry/10.15 Saturday night/Killing an Arab. In fact I loved them till Pornography (a grandiosely depressing album if ever there was one!) but think they went too poppy and downhill after that.

Despite loving both cats and early Cure, I cringe whenever I hear The Love Cats.

And that sums it up well:)

Yes, this was the very day Morris and McKay quit - I missed the bust-up earlier by minutes! So the state of the Banshees can be forgiven but does not forgiive the Cure who presumably had actually rehearsed for the gig?

i rarely listen to their albums any more (although i have about 15 of them  ) but as a singles band they're one of the best.

And - no Cure, no Mogwai

as someone who as born at about the heigh of the cures reign, i dont no the full ins and outs,
but i love them, a band that gets far to little respect. im sure the helped inspire all sorts of modern bands.

and their mtv unplugged session is borderline beautiful!

Robert Smith period Banshees were my fave! The live album Nocturne is fab.
I was in the audience for that gig!

The Cure were a great band. A Forest is one of my favourite record ever. They stopped being good around the early 90s.

'Disintegration' was pretty good from later years, if memory serves.

Can't remember anything good after that, though.

Yeah, it was their last good album. They were supposed to split up after that tour. They should have.

Great band who weren't afraid to alienate their audience when they felt like it. That new song with Smith singing on it's pretty good too.

i dunno, i reckon the next one - Wish? - had a handful of decent songs. THEN they should have split up :)

I still love old fat bob and if he came round to mine pants down i'd have 'im....

oh the musics still not bad either..

Not crap, sometimes pretty good. But not always.

I think that covers it.

Btw, I am actually a peanut! :(

Second band I ever saw live and were amazing. Still love their stuff although I went off them shortly after disintergration and sold all the stuff I had collected, loads of 12"s and rare 7's......still kicking myself for that.

I like the cure, 17 seconds would be my fave but Bob can also turn his hand to a great pop song when he wants to, Just like heaven and Friday I'm in Love for example (especially like it when he turns into a wierd strangulated cat at the end of FIIL)
