The Cover of Today's METRO? Why can't dozy anarchos come up with something that good?

I think you will struggle to find people starving on the streets of London.
not homeless with multiple problems but actually starving through lack of food.
don't believe you

actually, you would be surprised at the number of people who die of organ failure due to not eating sufficiently nutricious food. i'd have thought than, following the controversy surrounding the film 'Hunger's depiction of the H-Block strikes and features there-on, it would have been fairly difficult to avoid reading about how lack of food even over a relatively short period can affect the body.

though, you are correct in saying such cases are generally exaccerbated by other problems

may i just ask you what you consider to be a good piece of 'propaganda' ?

with a link if possible. :)

Crappy free newspaper makes empty gesture:

In my opinion of course.

and anything BETWEEN a work by the world's greatest war propagandist - ever - and the cover of a crappy free morning newspaper, perchance?

or is it just impossible for you not to be a dick?

I'm a bit confused now. You asked for an example of a "good piece of 'propaganda'". So I chose one.

Do you want a piece of "quite good but not all that good" propaganda? Why?

AHAHAAHAHAAHAHA IS THAT IT THEN?

fucking fail, weaker than oxfam :D

Knickers untwisted please comrades! Nothing to see here!

worra joke eh?:D

NO. that Abram Games is a genius. is beyond dispute.

you made it into a 'comparison' between his work and the metro cover which is a singularly crass and wanky thing to have done. as well you know.

and as well everyone else on this thread probably thought too. :)

As far as I know that poster is not by Abram Games.

Anyway, even if it is ... what should I have posted up for you that would not have been "singularly crass and wanky" - given your request, "may i just ask you what you consider to be a good piece of 'propaganda' "?

You seem very hard to please.

actually, my sincerest apologies for the grievous slander if i am mistaken but if my memory serves me correctly you were involved with the production of a certain 'cop...thief' anti-election leaflet?

ahem.....;)

incidentally , i don't think Oxfam are really engaged in any great competition or battle for hearts and minds with Metro.

go sniff yer mammy's panties son . you know what i mean so don't get wide.

Isn't the question here:

Is anyone on the anarcho/commie/anti-cap left producing decent visual propaganda these days?

Anything with the same impact as that Metro cover?

It seems to me that they aren't, but I would like to be proved wrong.

Here is a recent Amnesty International advert which works on similar principles to the Metro cover. Juxtapose modern Olympic swimming pool with image of torture to suggest that whilst we are focusing at one we are ignoring the other.

I don't disagree with that. But seen in context, it just reinforces the sense of hollowness. It would mean more if a few pages in there wasn't a load of bollocks about what's happening in the Celeb.. programme.

It was also very badly written, clearly by some sort of retard Sub. There was no need for the: "we don't mean to..." lines as that seemed like a total cop out.

The bloody Headline was almost longer than the story

i cant belive that the op thinks it was a great bit of journalism / propoganda. it wont stay in people's minds much past today, it was just a front page, nothing else to follow it up, unless you wanna know what the slebs were up to....so pretty shite (and telling us stuff we already know deep down) imo

hahaha, you just don't get it do you? :(

incidentally, teuchter, was thaat image you posted up juxtaposed with an image of olympic swimmers in a pool? if so it is a good image. without the juxtoposition it just looks a bit like a film still which kind of emasculates the message IMO.

however i still think the image/concept of people eating bugs (for 'entertainment'/survival) would make a greater impact as torture (esp. china/tibet) is still too politically abstract to have any great resonance.

you just don't gettit , do you?

it's a load of shit. show a photo of Gordon Brown spitting out an insect and that might be slightly more relevant

the message being......

Gordon Brown doesn't like the taste of insects?

Gordon Brown doesn't need to eat insects as he is on PM's wage?

Even though Gordon Brown is the PM and on a fantastic daily wage he still likes to nibble an insect now and again, however this one tasted a bit off?

what exactly? :confused::confused::confused:

No, it wasn't. IMO the message is perfectly clear. "Olympic Games" is mentioned in the text in the corner, for anyone who doesn't understand the connection.

The important difference is that Amnesty International are trying to do something to stop torture going on around the world.

Is the Metro and its sister publications doing its all to convey important world news to the masses instead of celebrity tosh? If so I haven't particularly noticed.

It's in a swimming pool though - the juxtaposition is implicit.

Anyway I think the only reason the Metro front page worked it was unexpected (for the Metro). Put it into a context where you expect it, and it would lose it's impact IMO.

oh just fuck off you total and utter ball-bag

exactly.

it is the very disparity of the cover on such a trashy, populist paper that makes it arresting. even on the cover of a G2 it would barely warrant a mention.

incidentally folks maybe if you ever left the politics forum you'd see there's another thread on the main forum on this very subject with very different responses.

says it all really.

and on that note i rest my case. :)

Eh?

The dozy anarchos do not need to learn from this?

Isn't that what your OP was saying?

no mate, quite the opposite. they do need to learn from stuff like this. populism is the only way to get any message across. apologies if our whole argument was crossed wires. :)
