The coolest record in your parents collection?

I've nicked all my Dad's good vinyl and left him with Level 42, Nik Kershaw and Dire Straits

So I'm now the owner (ahem) of some Abba, Beach Boys, Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder and Carpenters LPs.

He'll be looking for them one day... :p

Heh-heh!! well seeing as my Mum & Dad are both in their 80's now I think they are quite cool due to a copy of 'I Capricorn' by Shirley Bassey

Abbey Road - The Beatles
A Clockwork Orange (soundtrack)
Bob Marley Live
Jimi Hendrix (Limited Edition)

All originals of course.

I think my mum has an original Deep Purple one :D

How is her hearing these days? :D

ok it aint cool but I still love rumours by fleetwood mac that I absorbed a lot as a child.

My mum really likes 10,000 maniacs as well and has practically worn out her copy of in my tribe.

Ive got a couple of fairly cool tings, Jah Shaka original single and some really well kept Punk vinyl that Ive had since my early teens

My mum had the Carpenters album with Goodbye to Love on it. But only because I bought it for her for Christmas one year! :D

The only pop/rock music my Dad has is Sgt Pepper and that isn't cool at all.
My mum has some bits of Ella and Billie (Holliday, not Piper), but not much.
I guess the coolest thing my Dad has is stuff like expensive boxsets of the entire Ring Cycle and stuff like that. He's a massive opera buff.

Unless by some weird fucking time-machine / space-time continuum fuck-up you happen to be your own dad - and being from the North West, anything's possible :p - you've not answered the question correctly and small children across the country are laughing at you.

Well, Eastender is, anyway.

My Dad had all the original stones and animals singles - I don't know if that's cool or not cos we don't do cool in the fens, but I used to love listening to them.

My mums taste in music is a bit dodgy, although she might have some decent opera.

My dads is all Elvis and Queen, both of who I can't stand, but he always had "War of the Worlds" which is

My dad has a huge collection of vinyl and cds. In his old vinyl he's got some good 60s stuff like King Crimson and Love and some classics like the Stone Roses, Clash, Sex Pistols. In his cds he's got everything from Yo la Tengo to the Aphex Twin Classics album

My mum always had good taste in music, she introduced me to Billie Holiday, Violeta Parra, Beatles, Elis Regina (and lots of brazilian music)... When I was little I remember constantly playing her records at home.

She tried to get me to like Jazz too, but I mostly hate it (with a few exceptions).

My dad has almost everything by Elvis and Johnny Cash that he could get his mitts on - as well as a large amount of Thin Lizzy that I can't nick despite trying :D

The coolest record my mum owned wasn;t cool.

My Dad had a fair amount of Johnny Cash, Charlie Pride, Glen Campbell, etc. Depends if you think country is cool or not. I do.

He also had a bit of ratpack - Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, etc. I never liked this sort of stuff, and still don;t get it.

And Beatles - Help! and Beatles For Sale original copies. I've got them now.

Oh god, too many to choose from. I think myself quite lucky to have parents who did really like their music, so I had a good selection to listen to. Me dad loved cowboy, country, big band, and torch singers, and me mother liked jazz and rock and roll. I was raised on Dave Brubeck, Nina Simone, Marty Robbins, Little Richard, Dolly Parton, Glenn Miller, Edith Piaf, Elvis, the Righteous Brothers...the list goes on and on.

I can't just pick one record which I think was the coolest, so I'm gonna be greedy and have three :)

Elvis - Blue Moon (completely haunting 78)

Johnny Tillotson - Poetry in Motion (another 78 - they had huge piles of 78s)

Marty Robbins - Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs :D
