The Comic Strip presents - Mr Jolly Lives Next Door

what could be better than living above an off licence?

living in an off licence?

I think it was the best comic strip. I think a lot of them were over rated, but I remember Mr Jolly being quite good.

GLC had my favourite single line in, tho it was probalby just the sectarian in me....

the final showdown, everyone is gathering in City Hall, even Frank Dobson iirr, roll call is made

"Hatton, where's Hatton?"

"Oh, he's down at Stringfellows"

:D

Didn't You Kill My Brother is VERY under-rated too

Some great random lines from Alexi Sayle in that. This is probably all wrong and incomplete but I remember the nice one of the brothers saying to his wife something along the lines of......

'I've wall-papered the utility room, there's egg mayoniase in the fridge, now FUCK OFF!'

Peter Richardson was brilliant in those old Comic Strips. I can't rememebr if he was in Didn't You Kill My Brother but he deserves the fame that the others had. Genius and great actor.

he was Inspector Chipstick of the Yard in Didn't You Kill My Brother.

best line has to be Beryl Reid showing up at the disco - "i may be a lovable old cockney racist but i do like my reggae music"

fantastic Comic Strip episode, can't fault it!

"Nicholas Bloody Parsons, at The Dorchester!"

Side note, anyone know where I can find the Dangerous Brothers dvd/video?

Dub that quote is hilarious. :D

I love Peter Richardson, he's wicked.

He directed Stella Street too, which is another of my favs. (The first series being the don)

That's right. I think I will have to go video hunting in my attic tonight and have a Comic Strip weekend :)

I always had a soft spot for Eddie Monsoon whose famous last words were and I quote, "Oh God, Oh God, Oh God, Oh God, Oh God, Oh God, Oh God, Oh God, Oh God, Oh God. Give me another whisky, you bastards!" :D

Mr jolly is possibly the best of the comic strip films with some great lines such as ; Do you wana play a game ?
What Fattys game ?
No not Fattys game you are all right with us

not forgetting some other jems such as " Elephant n Castle stick it up your arsehole "
or even "Whats Mr Jolly got that we havent ?
Errrrr our washing up liquid

My favourite line was simultaneously from Rik & Ade - something along the lines of "what a dream, living above an off-licence." I watched this with my ex at the Scala in Kings Cross when it came out. At the time we lived in a shi*hole above an offies, just down the road. Oh how we laughed.

I watched them all back in the 80's. All but this one, however. And have heard much talk of it every since.

Fistfull of Travellers Cheques was always my favourite, with perhaps the greatest line in televised comedy:

This is Hotel Bastardos. You want soft toilet paper you go Hotel Gayboy.

It's a Euro Rover, old man.
