The Colour of Magic

So Jeremy Irons is Vetinari. Good call actually.

Actually this isn't all that bad, still think Jason is the wrong choice for Rincewind though.

Agreed. Him playing Nobby would've been a better call...what's the betting that they get him to play Vimes at some point?

Oi! A wizard spake the number that dare not be spoke! Repeatidly! You know. Four plus four. Ten minus two.

Did they do that deliberately to annoy us Discworld geeks? Its not as if they didn't know about bel-shamroth as he got a mention.

Just top the thing up with quality British actors and you can't go wrong.

Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy the film anyone? Alan Rickman, Bill Nighy, Martin Freeman, Stephen Fry, funniest book ever written as source material; still shit :(

Colour of magic doesn't strike me as the best discworld book to make for TV tbh, particularly considering the rather abrupt ending and the fact that, more than the other books, it's very much part one of a story that ends with the 'light fantastic'.

If it was me, I'd do one of the watch books. I hardly need to point out that Vimes would be played by Paddy Considine from dead man's shoes.

Totally - it's not the best book by a long chalk, either.

That Paddy bloke looks OK, if a bit young.

There are some excellent casting suggestions on this thread. Can't think who could play Carrot, though; who could get that level of innocence while still havign something more lurking deep underneath (perhaps), and look good with red hair?

Just been watching this and I think it's quite well done. Pratchett's humour doesn't come across much because most of his jokes are verbal, but if you see it as a quirky adventure fantasy rather than as 'comedy fantasy' then it's not bad.

Terence Stamp for Vetinari. He should be imposing but bloodless, Rickman's got too much character.

That big jug-eared guy from the Post Office adverts could play Colon.

Not bad, but I've always pictured Vetinari as being a bit younger than that - 40s/50s not 60s/70s.

Interesting. I've always seen him as being closer t 60 than 40. Someone of his experience and power wouldn't be in the possession of a 40 year old imo...

I'd always seen him as a grey-haired old man. A bit like an aged Henry VII*. In fact he's the only character who strikes me as looking completely wrong in Kidby's illustrations.

A long shot, but I think David Tennant might be able to do a Rincewind - he's scrawny and slightly odd and hysterical looking. He could probably also do the panicked look and fast-talking/pleading.

Either that or I'm up too late.

Thinking of Van Damme, we have a good crop of ageing action stars who'd make a fab Silver Horde in a few years' time. It's a shame Charles Bronson is already dead.
