The Cleansing of Hackney

But Barry, at least they're not enthusiastically standing for the anti-working class Labour Party http://www.hackney-labour.org.uk/candidates/?id=172

Given that the Labour Party stand for privatisation of everything that moves (see their actions), Bombing anywhere Bush tells them they should, Being pro-business in every aspect of their politics and shitting on the working class at every opportunity, perhaps you could explain your reasons for standing for the Labour Party?

Perhaps you could explain your alternative to the Labour Party?

So you're saying the voters of Haggerston should vote for you for even more gentrification, privatisation, Academies, lack of sports facilities etc because there isn't any alternative? Not because you want a nice cosy life as a follower of Tony? Have you given up on selling leftie books then?

You can't stop gentrification, so you may as well give up.

Unless you have the power to tell people where they can and can't live, and who they can sell their houses to.

That isn't entirely true: while a local council can't control the private housing market they do have powers over every new development and change of use - they have a role in making sure that the area ends up with the correct mix of shops, services and enough social housing etc. They can't actually stop some level of "gentification" if property prices rise, but can influence the way an area develops through the planning process and through their other strategies.

That's true enough. I'm just pointing out that it is fairly pointless whinging about waves of "White Settlers" and "White Incomers" moving to an area.

Areas change all the time. No-one can expect "their" bit of London to remain trapped in some sort of time-warp forever.

Thanks for showing whose side you're on.

Both Islington and Hackney councils are deliberately, and energetically, doing all they can to displace the current working class residents with the middle classes.

I'm not on anyone's "side".

Why do you think that the local councils want to change the social make-up of their areas? And how are they doing this?
