The Clash: Sandinista

Sorry for the delay. I think all rap is shite so can't really advise.

You sort of KNEW i was gonna say that!

It isn't; it's a sprawling, overblown, self-indulgent mess.

There's a good single album in there, for the want of a firm editor.

I remember buying it when I was a kid and it was a revelation. Listening to it now it still is. I can't think of another piece of work that has no duff tracks at all.

I bought Sandinista cos I wanted 'Armagideon times' only to find it wasn't on there as a track but the inside sleeve was called it, was gutted at the time and then played all 3 albums and loved it all.

favs=Washington Bullets + Charlie don't surf

Those two plus Lose This Skin (which isn't really them to be fair :D)

Something About England breaks me everytime - the brutal truth of the lyrics + that snatch of long dead if they'd really existed old men and bag ladies reduced to living on the streets singing It's A Long Way To Tipparere:(:(

So this is the best album The Clash made,
I think you might be right:cool:

I remember buying it when I was a kid and it was a revelation. Listening to it now it still is. I can't think of another piece of work that has no duff tracks at all.

definitly a reverlation - it's my most played Clash album since I got obsessed with them in 04 and I'm stuill hearing new things in it. Bought it because it was in the sales, listened fully expecting (thanks to internet and non internet critics) it to be somewhere between being mostly shit or shit from side3/5 onwards, stuck it on headphones and waited and for it to suddenly "turn evil" -
Lose this skin is one that gets left over, it's very fiddly and it's tymon dogg, it's great. Very English.
was also prewarned that Lose This Skin would be extra crap but it's not - I love it - good lyrics too.

Hitsville UK would be good with a bit of bollocks added to it.
figures sering that's one of the worst actual songs on it:D

Right this second my favourite track would be Rebel Waltz, currently stuck on it - 3rd play so far:o

omg - the segue between Mikey Dread going diddly didly murder... to Somebody got murdered.

eta one of the things I love about it, is how fucking bleak it is if you read the lyrics, but most of the album doesn't sound bleak.

Corner Soul is a killer earworm - last time was the "..diesel of war boys war" bit (so's Kingston Advice - due to coincidents of timing endede up having "don't beg for your life" playing on a loop during the coverage of Ken Bigley :( )

Can't believe i've found so many people willing to praise it, fucking hell EVERY SINGLE person i have spoken to before this forum thought it was shite and judging by Strummer in the docu DVD i had even he knows it...

- things I forgot to post this morning

overall favourite song = The Street Parade

oh and Trev - you'd go down well over at If Music Could Talk - try asking them about Vince White/the Clash mark II
