The Clash / Babyshambles - Whats the difference?

25+ years.

That's my problem with Babyshambles: it's all been done before. And better.
Spot on. The Clash were original, Babyshamble are...er...a shambles :)

Whatever. Love it or hate it - there's gonna be a whole generation of people who grew up with Babyshambles and who are probably always gonna love 'em....

Fact.

Somehow I doubt it and all the hype isn't going to help either.

Why?

You really think that everyone who loves Babyshambles now is just going to turn around and admit that they're crap?

I know people who used to love The Clash but would now reckon that they're "unlistenable garabage."

People have tastes that change. Some people will always love both bands - while others change their minds and "see the light." Whatever. Its all subjective - innit?

But god you people are arrogant.

Ok - Babyshambles have influnced themselves from The Clash - but isn't that just admitting that they both sound kinda the same?

And aren't both Pete and Joe son's of high-ranking army folk? Not that thats got anything to do with anything....

Ice age coming - fuck forever if you don't mind.

The Clash / Babyshambles - Whats the difference?

Sorry to have to say this to you, but Babyshambles are seriously shite and can't even hold a candle to The Clash. Just because Mick Jones produces them doesn't mean that they are the 'inheritors' of The Clash's mantle. On the contrary, they are about as political as S Club 7.

I never said that they are inheritors of The Clash's mantle.
I never said that Babyshambles are political.

I just said they sound the same.

And they do.

Its all subjective - yes, so we'll all have to agree to disagree :p

and no saying one band influenced themselves from another does not mean they sound kinda the same.

And they do.

They don't sound the same. They may sound the same to an untrained and unsophisticated ear but I know the difference.

I went to see babyshambles on tour recently. Went down to the greenock town hall where we sat in a local boozer having a few drinks before the gig. Its getting to that stage now where ma pal and i where almost (if not) double the age of some of the gig goers.. we got into a conversation with a group of yung uns going to the gig, talking about music in general. What came across was that the libertines, pete doherty etc are their idols. they absolutely luv em/him and some where saying how this has got em to look at other bands and what influence that the lyrics/music has had on their life. ..

i defo felt a bit old at that point, feeling all the bands that influenced my musical path have long been and gone.. still it was absolutely fantastic to see and hear the enthusiasm that a lot of people have for doherty and his bands. the point, well i quite like a lot of babyshambles songs, thought they played a blinding set live but definately dont move the earth for me.. but understand fully why others adore the music/doherty and it was refreshing to hear as well...

when it comes to comparing babyshambles to the clash, theres no comparison to make. maybe when shambles have lasted the pace, done the tours, made the albums and 25 years on (many) people still sing their praises then their maybe a comparison to make... simply havin jonesy produce their albums doesnae do it fur me and even though i like babyshambles.. i dont think they got it to make that much of an impact.

The difference is that the Clash sounded the way they wanted to sound and Babyshambles are obsessed with sounding like a band that was around nearly 30 years ago. Its strained, contrived, and quite poor.

I've never even met someone who thought Shed Seven were good - at the time.

I used to know a few people who liked Shed Seven, but I've never heard anyone say they like Babyshambles. It's just who you're around at the time isn't it?

The yoof of today - eh? It's one thing to be influenced by a type of sound but to try and sound like a long dead band just stinks.

I agree. I dont they sound anything like each other sonically.

if not Shed Seven, any number of bands who were people's very LIVES for a few weeks here and there. The Wonderstuff, Gene, fucking Lene Lovich, it doesn't matter. people can and do change their minds, and whilst i don't claim any precognition i suspect the likelihood of Babyshambles being as revered in, i dunno, TWO YEARS time is pretty fucking slim.

Surely we just need a definitive statement from Cheesypoof and we can put the whole debate to bed? :p

S*M*A*S*H* were more like the Clash than Babyshambles are.

But Babyshambles are better than S*M*A*S*H*.

Just about.

I would have killed you for saying something like that ten years ago. Now it's "S*M*A*S*H who?".

Which is exactly what Babyshambles fans will be thinking ten (two?) years from now.
