The CatCam works!! LOL!

Clowns to the Left of me
At last I've got the CatCam to work. Doesn't seem to bother the cat she is as equally slothful while wearing the camera and battery pack as when she isn't. So far I've got half an hour of her eating and staring out one of the other cats.

Managed to get a tiny CMOS 1.2 GHz camera and it runs off of a normal PP3* battery but I want to change that for some Chinese gel cells I've seen which will be lighter.

Its only in prototype 'ugly' stage at the moment but its proved to me you can fit a video camera on a cat.

Whoo hoo. Pointless techno fiddling wins the day again.

* decided against a lead/acid battery as the cat does need to move around :-)

brilliant - i might try this myself! where's the camera from?

also, if you want a lightweight rechargable 9v battery, check out the ones they sell for those tiny electric r/c helicopters - they would be ideal

I got it from ebuyer and its this one: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/131409

Thanks for the advice about the helicopter battery. I was trawling the web the other night and found some Chinese military gel cells which might have done but this idea sounds more cost effective.

Well this is no bloody good, is it, unless you post a link to the cam so we can hang out with KeyboardKitty.

this site might have something suitable, they have some tiny ones one there

so can you tune an analogue tv into that camera's signal then? what's the range of the cat cam?

Thanks for that

No the camera comes with its own dedicated reciever. Haven't checked the range when its on cat yet but its claimed to be about 100 feet or so with the small antenna on the reciever. Off the top of my head the TX is FM with an 8MHz bandwidth for the signal.

I'm sure I can build or aquire a more efficent antenna though. A Yagi would be practical at 1.2GHz not too big and being directional I could track her when she is outside. Note for animal lovers I'm going to hold the Yagi I'm not going to mount it on the cat LOL!

Next step is to build a proper case for the camera and find my small 4" monitor so I can follow her more outside.

It is essential that you put this up on the web somewhere, I love that you caught her staring at another cat for ages, how typically feline :D

so now you have a lot of footage of a cat staring and eating?

I like the technology, but can't see the point of the application.

(I don't like cats much)

Unedited webcams out I'm afraid. Ms KbJ may not be too happy at a cat broadcasting her when she is undressing LOL! :D

Is the cat male? Bagsie "peepingtom" as the mogblog name. It's a whole new genre of porn in the making - from the point of view of a cat.

I think I just threw up a little.

No shes a neutered female. Thats got to be the most bizarre porn idea of the week. I bet you could sell it to the Americans or the Japanese.

I'm amazed it's not already on the tellyset.

How about that chap who rigged up a sensor to the cat flap that triggered a recording to announce "Elvis is in the building! Elvis has left the building!" whenever so-named mog entered or exited. But then Elvis started hosting parties, and the cat flap would be going all night with kitteh revelers, all apparently named Elvis (Elvis impersonators, if you will). So our boffin friend then rigged up a webcam so he could see which mog was sneaking in and out, but had not yet managed to get the camera to recognise which cat was coming and going.

There is no punchline to this tale, I'm afraid.
