The British Vulcan bomber plane - news and discussion

The Vulcan is up and about right now and flying over Leicestershire en route to RNAS Yeovilton - currently at about 4000 feet in the vicinity of Rutland Water.

It's flying all summer. Tomorrow around Somerset and South Wales. All the following weekend at Fairford for the RIAT. Various other displays in July and August until maybe a last flight later in September.

Vulcan just taking off from Doncaster right now and about to fly around the north. Due Blackpool (display) at 1430, Croft (flypast) 1500, Elvington (display) 1520 before landing back at Doncaster at 1530BST. Rough route is here:

Last flying weekends coming up tomorrow over Gaydon, Warwickshire and Old Warden, Bedfordshire. The last weekend, 10/11th October, is supposed to be a north and then south farewell flypast.

As I understand it, even at the last they're ignoring northern Scotland. A shame. Did they ever make it to Northern Ireland? If they're going to do a farewell tour they ought to do it properly.

I think it was on show in NI and western Scotland early in September.

As above, it flew at Prestwick on the 5th of September:

According to that video that Vulcan is only flying thanks to 22million of public donations and 2million of lottery money , used to maintain it. That has got my blood boiling. Thats just for that one particular hunk of shit. I dread to think how much non-tax money is being ploughed into keeping other war planes in the air (when theyre not crashing on people). I'll never understand this fetishisation of military equipment - feels utterly perverse to me. At most stick it in a museum where it cant hurt anyone.

There is an app to track the Vulcan this weekend so it'll pop up alerts rather than my usual cursing because I forgot. XH558 it's called. Surely I can't be the only one spoddy enough to install it.

Spotted it today out the back of my house. While I'm uncomfortable glorying in a machine designed to drop nuclear payloads on Eastern Bloc cities I have to say that I'd forgotten what a majestic sight a vulcan is - amazing looking aircraft

Flew for the last time this afternoon.
